Accordingly, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will select to pilot STEMeducation activities at primary schools in District 1, District 3, Phu Nhuan District, Tan Binh District and Hoc Mon District. Each Department of Education and Training will select at least 5 primary schools to participate in the pilot based on the principle of choosing diverse conditions in terms of facilities, teachers and students.

Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that primary schools will pilot the program through three forms: STEM lessons - integrated into the content of lessons in the general education program; STEM experience activities; and familiarization with scientific and technical research activities.

In particular, STEM lessons are built based on the duration of subjects and educational activities related to the lesson in a scientific, flexible, and age-appropriate manner, without overloading students and teachers, and are shown in the school's educational plan. Teachers are encouraged to use supplementary digital resources, virtual experiments, simulation software, and virtual reality that are easily accessible in and out of the classroom.

Regarding STEM experiential activities, Mr. Quoc said that schools will organize them through STEM clubs, STEM festivals, STEM learning projects, and STEM experiential activities at locations that are suitable for the goals, interests, talents, and aspirations of students. The space and time for implementation can be outside the school, outside the time of subjects and educational activities, but must comply with the regulations on organizing experiential activities, ensuring absolute safety for students.

As for the activity of getting acquainted with scientific and technical research, Mr. Quoc clearly stated that it is for students who have talent, interests, and passion, and who are starting to explore and approach scientific and technical research to solve practical problems. This activity will be organized on a voluntary basis, not compulsory for students , based on students' abilities and interests, without causing pressure or overload for them.

For primary schools not selected for the pilot, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training encourages schools to ensure organizational conditions, boldly implement and develop a STEM integrated education plan. After summarizing and evaluating the pilot phase, the Department of Education and Training will widely deploy STEM education activities from the second semester of the 2023-2024 school year.
