Ho Chi Minh City organizes the 3rd Orchid Festival

The 3rd Orchid Festival is organized by the Department of Industry and Trade in coordination with the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Department of Construction, Department of Culture and Sports, Department of Tourism, District 1 People's Committee, departments and branches of Ho Chi Minh City and related units.

Sharing at the socio -economic press conference in Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of May 8, Mr. Pham Quang Hoi - Director of the Center for Consulting and Supporting the Transformation of Agricultural Economic Structure (Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City) said that the 3rd Ho Chi Minh City Orchid Festival was organized with the purpose of continuing to spread and becoming an important practical activity in the series of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2025).

At the same time, honoring the orchid brand and ornamental flower products - key products of the agricultural sector of Ho Chi Minh City and provinces and cities in the regions that have signed cooperation agreements on socio-economic development with Ho Chi Minh City; connecting culture, tourism with urban agricultural development to create ideal destinations, attractive tourism when visiting the city.

Thereby, affirming the role of Ho Chi Minh City as an effective bridge, an important trade promotion channel in the development of agricultural economy of regions across the country. Sharing technologies, applying science and technology to develop orchids and ornamental plants; creating a bridge between the state - farmers and consumers in the agricultural sector towards the goal of building "civilized farmers - ecological agriculture - modern countryside".

The new feature of the 3rd Ho Chi Minh City Orchid Festival is the theme “Multi-colored Train” designed with inspiration from the two Thong Nhat trains departing at the same time, on the same day, December 31, 1976, at Hanoi and Saigon stations, opening the North-South railway line, bringing with it the desire for peace, healing and reunion. The image of the North-South train attached to the Metro will be the main axis leading to special train stations connecting the past - present - future.

Here, visitors can experience the unique features of each region, the beauty of orchids from all over the country; at the same time, the design also carries the message of a green city - a future city aiming for Net Zero to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve the quality of life for people, enhance public health and protect the environment.

With large and small landscapes showing the unique features of each region, the beauty of orchids from all over the country, the Festival attracted more than 200 units including cooperatives, gardeners, artisans to participate in the exhibition, introduce orchids and orchid competitions. The total number of orchids participating in the exhibition in the miniature landscapes of all categories is 39,000 products, an increase of 35% compared to the 2nd Orchid Festival. Of which, units in Ho Chi Minh City provided 34,000 products, accounting for 87%, the remaining orchids are from the provinces: Lam Dong, Dak Lak...

In addition, the orchid landscape space has the participation of Thailand and Lam Dong province. The opening ceremony will recreate the work Hon Viet which won the Silver Prize at the Taiwan International Orchid Exhibition (China) - TIOS 2025; a workshop program with contents such as instructions on flower dyeing, flower vase arrangement, spray painting techniques on Phalaenopsis orchids, demonstration of European-style flower art works, and growing Phalaenopsis orchids on driftwood.

The Organizing Committee (OC) said that it will arrange many spaces for introduction and promotion to serve the city's residents and tourists such as: space to promote city tourism; flower and ornamental plant space to introduce the typical culture of Thu Duc City, Cu Chi District, Nha Be District; space for exhibition and performance of art works; space to introduce regional culinary culture; cultural and artistic activities on 4 nights of May 16, May 17, May 18, May 19 at the opening stage.

Also within the framework of the Orchid Festival, the Organizing Committee will hold a City Orchid Contest, with an expected participation of about 500 orchid samples, divided into 7 main groups: Dendrobium lightning orchid, common Dendrobium orchid, small Cattleya orchid, large Cattleya orchid, slipper orchid, wild orchid, and mixed orchid.
