In order to promote the digital transformation process associated with sustainable development, on the morning of May 30, the workshop "Digital transformation in supply chain management" took place within the framework of the selection program for Innovation projects in the field of sustainable development in Ho Chi Minh City. The event was organized by the Department of Science and Technology (KH&CN) of Ho Chi Minh City in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Creative Entrepreneurship (SIHUB), with the accompaniment of Checkee, creating a multi-dimensional connection space between startups, experts, investors and policy makers.
Vietnam is currently actively perfecting its legal framework, notably regulations on traceability of products and goods issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD). This is not only a requirement for transparency but also a prerequisite for Vietnamese enterprises to improve their competitiveness in the global supply chain.
Mr. Tran Ninh Dong, Acting Head of the Department of Innovation Management and Intellectual Property, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology emphasized: “Digital transformation is not only a trend but also a foundation for Vietnam to build a sustainable, transparent and internationally competitive supply chain. Promoting innovation associated with sustainable development is the key goal in Resolution 20/2023 of the City”.
One of the highlights of the workshop was the role of digital traceability in increasing transparency and product safety. Mr. Tran Ngoc Trung, Head of the Southern Representative Office of the National Code and Barcode Center (NBC), said: “Traceability is a mandatory requirement, not only for quality control but also to meet global market standards. The legal framework is now in place, but the big challenge lies in standardization and synchronous application in practice.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Pham Van Quan, National Digital Transformation Expert, Director of Checkee Company, shared: “Digital transformation in the supply chain is becoming an inevitable requirement, especially in the face of increasingly complex counterfeiting. Integrating technologies such as RFID, QR codes, and cloud data helps businesses control the entire process and enhance consumer trust.”
According to Dr. Pham Thi Hong Phuong, Senior Advisor of the Center for Innovation, Digital Transformation and Entrepreneurship, businesses need to put sustainable development into their core strategy, not only as a social responsibility but also as a long-term competitive advantage. Technology is the lever that helps businesses achieve this effectively.
In addition to in-depth discussion sessions, the program also introduces the Green Innovation Contest 2025 (GIC 2025). This is an initiative to promote innovative start-up projects in the field of sustainable development with financial support levels of up to 400 million VND/project.
Ms. Le Thi Be Ba, Deputy Director of SIHUB, said: “From the success of GIC 2024 with more than 180 interested projects, we believe that GIC 2025 will continue to be a launching pad for green initiatives, from renewable energy, sustainable agriculture to smart cities.”
The workshop not only provided a comprehensive view of sustainable development in Ho Chi Minh City but also opened up many practical opportunities for participants. Here, individuals and organizations were updated with the latest policy information, financial support mechanisms as well as ways to participate in innovative startup programs, while contributing significantly to the overall development of Vietnam's economy and society.
