Previously, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee held a meeting with teachers and leaders of universities, colleges, academies and branches in the city on the evening of November 8 to celebrate the 43rd anniversary of Vietnam Teachers' Day. Attending the meeting were Mr. Tran Luu Quang, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Hai Quan, Member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Minister of Science and Technology; and Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People's Committee.

The meeting was not only an opportunity for Ho Chi Minh City leaders to express their gratitude to the teaching staff, but also a channel to listen to and respond to the recommendations and proposals of the principals in planning local development policies. Secretary of the City Party Committee Tran Luu Quang also directly answered each question and issue raised by the university leaders.

Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Tran Luu Quang said that in the near future, Ho Chi Minh City will have many innovations, especially changes in the way of doing things and approaches to difficult tasks, because doing things the old way is difficult to solve. "We encourage everyone to be braver," Mr. Quang said, and commented that the current system has changed a lot, if we can take advantage of it, there will be more conditions for the city to develop.

The city has a policy of utilizing surplus land and headquarters for education and health development, with specific proposals from universities such as the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Vietnam-Germany University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Ho Chi Minh City National University.

The head of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee wishes to listen more to the comments of experts and scientists, and assigned the Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Development Studies to be the focal point for receiving information, classifying, advising and making recommendations.

According to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, many schools in Ho Chi Minh City this year have an innovative approach by exchanging November 20 flowers for books and using the funds to help disadvantaged students or support people affected by natural disasters caused by storms and floods.

Typically, Phan Van Tri Primary School (Cau Ong Lanh Ward) posted a notice that it would not accept flowers on November 20th , but instead would accept books, candy or school supplies for students. Similarly, Nguyen Van Luong Secondary School (Binh Phu Ward), Thu Duc High School, Le Minh Xuan Secondary School, etc. also organized a light, economical and sharing ceremony for November 20th.

On November 12, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City also announced that it will not organize receptions or accept flowers or gifts to celebrate the 43rd anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers' Day.

The policy of not receiving guests, not accepting flowers or gifts to celebrate Vietnamese Teachers' Day November 20 of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City aims to implement the policy of practicing thrift and fighting waste. This policy has also been implemented by this Department for many years.
