This is one of the important directives recently sent by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training to educational institutions.

In accordance with Resolution 71 of the Politburo , the use of a unified national set of textbooks will begin in the 2026-2027 school year. At the end of December 2026, the "Connecting Knowledge with Life" textbook set was selected by the Ministry of Education and Training as the official set to replace the three current sets.

Ho Chi Minh City is one of the localities that must replace its textbooks with new ones. The leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training emphasized that educational institutions should implement the "Connecting Knowledge with Life" textbook series in school educational planning, professional development activities, student assessment, and other textbook-related activities in accordance with the General Education Program, ensuring flexibility and proactiveness in school teaching and learning.

The Department requires schools to be responsible for sending administrators and teachers to participate in training on the use of the "Connecting Knowledge with Life" textbook series, under the guidance of the publisher, this week.

At the same time, schools need to guide students on how to use and take care of textbooks, and to prevent them from writing or drawing in the textbooks in order to use them economically and for a long time.

"Forcing students to buy new textbooks when they are still usable is strictly prohibited," the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training emphasized in its directive.

For previously approved textbooks, schools should proactively develop plans for using them as reference materials to supplement teaching content, meeting the learning objectives of the general education program and adapting to their specific circumstances; avoiding disruption and waste; and not creating additional burdens for students and their parents.

To ensure the quality of teaching local content, the Department of Education and Training requires units to proactively train their staff and implement professional training according to the set schedule.

The Department of Education and Training requires all general education institutions to effectively implement the "Connecting Knowledge with Life" program and textbooks, which have been approved and selected by the Ministry of Education and Training , ensuring that the objectives and requirements regarding students' qualities and competencies are met.

Simultaneously, the school should develop an educational plan that is appropriate to its actual conditions, ensuring that after each semester, students achieve the level of understanding and competence according to the program's output standards; and at the same time, create conditions for students with good abilities and learning potential to develop their individual capabilities to the fullest.

On the other hand, schools also conduct reviews and forecasts of the number of students in each grade level to estimate the needs and costs of providing textbooks for students and for the school library (3-5 sets/subject/grade level).

Secondary schools should review and assess the current state of their facilities and teaching equipment to propose purchases that ensure the minimum necessary items are available, especially equipment for practical work, experiments, subject-specific classrooms, computer labs, libraries, and digital transformation infrastructure, in order to receive support from the competent authorities.

At the same time, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training emphasized reviewing staffing levels and proposing additional recruitment needs to ensure sufficient numbers, structure, and qualifications for teachers as required by regulations.
