On the morning of June 9, Hoa Sen University (District 1), Ho Chi Minh City) coordinated with Tien Phong Newspaper to organize a discussion on "Young people and behavioral culture amid the "dramatic storm". The event not only analyzed and delved into the nature of "watching drama", experts also suggested solutions for young people to select information and form a civilized behavioral culture in cyberspace.
The workshop was attended by musician Nguyen Van Chung, Runner-up - MSc. Phuong Anh
Speaking at the discussion, journalist Ly Thanh Tam, Chief Representative of Tien Phong Newspaper in Ho Chi Minh City, said that drama appears like "daily bread", spreads every minute, every second and attracts millions of views and comments.
"Drama" is a polysemous term. But in the modern context, especially on social media, it mainly refers to dramatic, noisy, controversial events and stories that attract public attention. Excessive "watching" has many negative psychological and social consequences.
From artists' private lives, personal feelings to everyday matters such as debt collection, disputes, and conflicts - all can become online phenomena that are discussed publicly.
The online community with thousands of comments, shares, and judgments has repeatedly turned cyberspace into a "court" where those on trial have no chance to defend themselves and their personal honor can be trampled upon with just a few unverified statements.
"In that "dramatic whirlwind", young people are not only spectators but also contributors to spreading and exaggerating negative stories. By intentionally or unintentionally participating in offensive comments, sharing false information or promoting a culture of denunciation, we are letting emotions lead our behavior instead of staying sober" - journalist Ly Thanh Tam emphasized.
The workshop emphasized the role of young people. If not careful, young people can also become victims of drama.
Sharing at the seminar, Dr. Nguyen Hoai Nam, Deputy Head of the Faculty of Psychology Law - Hoa Sen University, said that the boundary between civil and criminal violations is very fragile. "Drama" is online but the legal consequences are offline" - Dr. Nam emphasized.
MSc - PhD student Phan Trinh Hoang Da Thi, Director of the Psychology program - Hoa Sen University, said that when social networks become an indispensable part of life, the phenomenon of drama seems to have become a spiritual food that is difficult to give up for many people.
"When drama erupts, crowd psychology comes into play through the principle of emotional contagion and behavioral imitation. A comment, an emotion (joy, anger) from one person can quickly spread to another. In particular, the influence of influential people increases the suggestiveness and appeal of drama" - Master Thi said.
At the seminar, experts pointed out the forms of drama that pose many legal dangers, including: spreading fake news, false information; insulting honor, dignity, reputation; illegally revealing private secrets, personal information; inciting violence, hatred; harassing and threatening behavior online; violating copyright, intellectual property rights, etc.
MSc. Phan Trinh Hoang Da Thi believes that today's youth lack control over their lives, leading to being easily drawn into drama.
Dr. Nguyen Hoai Nam, Deputy Head of the Faculty of Psychology Law - Hoa Sen University, said that young people should prioritize receiving information from newspapers and mainstream media.
In particular, the act of making, storing, disseminating or propagating information, documents and items with distorted, fabricated content, causing confusion among the people with the aim of opposing the State may be prosecuted for criminal liability for "Crime of making, storing, disseminating or propagating information, documents and items aimed at opposing the Socialist Republic of Vietnam" according to the provisions of Article 117 of the Penal Code and may be sentenced to imprisonment from 5 to 12 years.
According to MSc. Da Thi, "watching drama" is not always negative. The problem lies in how we respond to it. When drama happens, our response to drama will create value. "We need to be alert when participating in discussions and gossip on social networks" - MSc. Da Thi emphasized.
