Experience the heritage of Mother Goddess worship at the Vietnam Women's Museum

NDO - With the aim of honoring the beauty in practicing the heritage of Mother Goddess worship, the Vietnam Women's Museum has coordinated with Mind Group Limited Company to build a cultural experience program "Mother Goddess Worship: Heart-Beauty-Joy" at the museum space. The program launched on the afternoon of June 7 and continues every Friday and Saturday evening.

The program to experience the cultural beliefs of Mother Goddess worship at the Vietnam Women's Museum attracted the attention of many delegates and tourists.

This is also a meaningful program launched to celebrate the 8th anniversary of the practice of the Vietnamese Mother Goddess Worship belief recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity; responding to the National Action Program to protect and promote the value of the intangible cultural heritage of the Vietnamese Mother Goddess Worship belief practice. The cultural experience program "Mother Goddess Worship: Heart-Beauty-Joy" brings together an experienced production team, including: General Director Nguyen Xuan Thanh Tung; Professional Director: Dr., Artisan Nguyen Duc Hien; Music Director: Meritorious Artisan Nguyen Ba Hai; Production Director: Master Pham Hoang My. The program is advised by Associate Professor, Dr. Do Lai Thuy (Institute of Cultural Anthropology); Master Nguyen Thi Tuyet (Director of the Vietnam Women's Museum).

According to General Director Nguyen Xuan Thanh Tung: The Mother Goddess worship is closely associated with the history of the Vietnamese people through characters that are both legendary and historical. Through the process of formation and development, the Mother Goddess worship has integrated many unique cultural values, notably reflecting the traditional morality of "When drinking water, remember its source" when most of the saints in the Four Palaces' shrine are people who have contributed to the country. However, not all Vietnamese people understand the Mother Goddess worship belief, what the spirit medium ritual is, the standards in the lyrics and singing or the patterns of the costumes used to practice the ritual... This is what has motivated the people who implemented the program to develop the cultural experience program "Mother Goddess worship belief: Heart-Beauty-Joy". "Although it is impossible to convey everything in one program so that the audience can fully grasp the knowledge of Mother Goddess worship belief, the program performed at the Vietnam Women's Museum will certainly bring a different and creative way of conveying in the spirit of respecting national culture, promoting the beauty in the practice of Mother Goddess worship belief of Vietnamese people to domestic and international friends" - General Director Nguyen Xuan Thanh Tung emphasized.

The program took place right at the exhibition space on the Mother Goddess worship of the Vietnam Women's Museum. This exhibition introduces the core values of the Mother Goddess worship through the voices and experiences of people following the Mother Goddess in Hanoi and some northern provinces, contributing to raising the understanding of a unique folk belief with lasting vitality of the Vietnamese people. The exhibition includes four themes: Mother Goddess-Heart-Beauty-Joy corresponding to the four typical colors of the four palaces: red (Thien Phu - the Sky), white (Thoai Phu - the Water), yellow (Dia Phu - the Land) and green (Nhac Phu - the Forest). With a duration of 90 minutes of practical experience, the program brings the audience to a space filled with emotions when they "touch" the beauty in the practice of the Mother Goddess worship, through a vivid introduction to musical instruments and music in the ritual of the spirit medium, through a special performance of the scarf, royal dress, and the performance of the price of the spirit medium. Through this, viewers are awakened with all their senses: Sight, when visiting the installation art related to the Mother Goddess worship; hearing, when immersing themselves in the space of Chau Van music, an indispensable element when performing the Hau Dong ritual; taste, when enjoying the specialties of Hanoi cuisine ; smell, when feeling the incense in the mysterious space; touch: when touching the collection of Chau scarves - royal dresses, Tu Phu dolls... from there, feeling joy and peace in a space imbued with the spiritual culture of the nation.

Taking on the role of professional director and the person who directly performs the spirit medium ritual in the program, Dr. and Artist Nguyen Duc Hien said that the special thing is that the space of the Vietnam Women's Museum has ensured the sacredness of recreating the ritual of practicing the Mother Goddess worship, because the exhibition area is decorated with images of altars similar to communal altars in temples and shrines. When entering, it will feel like the saints are sitting before us. And the male and female mediums when performing or serving before the community will have the responsibility to serve in the right manner. According to him, the criteria for building the program is to ensure the sacredness and majesty of the saints and gods, while at the same time having artistic value, expressing the core values of the belief. “When performing, we try to harmoniously combine traditional singing and expressing the quintessence of art. From facial expressions, movements to music, everything is imbued with artistic qualities. In particular, the costumes, although still designed in the traditional style, have been combined with a bit of contemporary elements to create a close connection with the modern audience, especially today's young generation” - Artist Nguyen Duc Hien shared.

As someone who introduced the spirit mediumship on CNN and was the first to bring the scarf and royal dress to the modern fashion stage, he also said he is willing to explain the program's content in English if the program attracts many international visitors to experience. Director of the Vietnam Women's Museum Nguyen Thi Tuyet said that the program has been conceptualized and implemented by the team for many months. "Currently, the display system on Mother Goddess worship at the Museum has photos, characters, stories, and artifacts, but still needs more interaction with the public and visitors. Therefore, the museum realized the need to build this program. We hope that the program will help attract more domestic and international visitors to the Vietnam Women's Museum," Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet expressed.
