The MU - West Ham match (pictured above) set a record in the US, while only about 22,000 people came to the stadium to watch Arsenal play AC Milan. |
According to official statistics from Secret Singapore , only 22,813 people attended the Singapore National Stadium on July 23, less than half of its 55,000-seat capacity, making the atmosphere at the stadium quieter than expected. This is the venue for the friendly match between Arsenal and AC Milan.
The above figure is less than the friendly match between MU and West Ham in the US. On July 27, the "Red Devils" continued to affirm their global appeal when 82,566 spectators filled MetLife Stadium, setting a record for the most watched football match in the US in 2025. Even the match between the two teams ranked 14th and 15th in the Premier League in the 2024/25 season witnessed an audience that exceeded the FIFA Club World Cup final between Chelsea and PSG (81,118 spectators).
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was disappointed with the sparse attendance in Singapore. Meanwhile, many local fans spoke out on social media, saying the main reason was the high ticket prices, which were not suitable for local people.
The fact that the match took place on a Wednesday night, in the middle of the work and school week, coupled with the hot and stuffy weather, also made many people choose to watch at home instead of going to the stadium. Not to mention, most Singaporean fans are loyal to the national team or domestic clubs, so friendly matches between European teams, despite their reputation, do not necessarily attract much attention.
On the contrary, MU is currently in decline but still proves its global appeal with the enthusiastic presence of fans wherever they go.
