On June 3, Mr. Nguyen Van Nhuan - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Khanh Hoa province - said that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has just issued a decision on announcing the list of national intangible cultural heritages.
In particular, the ministry has decided to include in the list of national intangible cultural heritages the folk knowledge of exploiting and processing agarwood in Khanh Hoa and the traditional festival of Khanh Hoa Salanganes Nest Festival.
Agarwood exploitation and processing is an old profession with a tradition of hundreds of years in Khanh Hoa.
Nowadays, agarwood is not only a valuable economic product but also a cultural and spiritual symbol and pride of Khanh Hoa people.
Khanh Hoa Salanganes Nest Festival is a festival that has both cultural value and great significance for local economic and social development. It is held annually on the 10th of May (lunar calendar) to pay tribute to the ancestors of the salanganes nest profession from more than 700 years ago.
The Bird's Nest Festival has become a traditional custom, closely associated with the lives of bird's nest workers in Khanh Hoa.
The festival's rituals include worshiping the ancestors of the profession, praying for the gods to protect the bird's nest harvesting profession, and praying for a favorable harvesting season.

Currently, local authorities and bird's nest organizations have played an important role in maintaining and preserving the festival.
In December 2024, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also decided to announce the inclusion of folk knowledge and traditional handicrafts of Khanh Hoa Salanganes Nest exploitation and processing knowledge into the list of national intangible cultural heritage.
Thus, Khanh Hoa bird's nest currently has 2 national intangible cultural heritages.
