More than 70,000 candidates in Ho Chi Minh City complete procedures for the 10th grade exam: Notes from supervisors for candidates

On the morning of June 5, more than 70,000 candidates went to testing locations to complete procedures for the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year in Ho Chi Minh City.

Remind candidates to arrive early on exam day

At the Au Lac Secondary School exam site on the morning of June 5, the exam registration procedure and the announcement of exam regulations took place quickly.

Candidates began entering the examination room to meet the invigilators at 9:30. Most arrived before this time. Some latecomers were reminded to arrive earlier on the official exam day, June 6.

The invigilators take turns calling the roll of candidates, announcing the exam time and items allowed in the exam room. Candidates check the information on their citizen identification cards or student cards and the registration form. In case of any errors in last name, middle name, first name, date of birth, or priority subjects, the invigilators are requested to immediately report to the examination council for timely handling.

By 10am, the rooms had finished their activities and students were allowed to go home. Ms. Bui Thi Minh Tam - Principal of Au Lac Secondary School, Deputy Head of the Examination Site - said that this year, the examination site had 436 candidates, from 3 public secondary schools and 3 private secondary schools in the area. The examination invigilation was guaranteed to be safe and stable as in previous years, with no significant changes.

However, because this year is the first year of the 10th grade entrance exam according to the 2018 general education program, Ms. Tam believes that many candidates will inevitably feel anxious. Therefore, during the procedure this morning, the supervisors tried to bring the most comfortable atmosphere for the candidates.

Teachers also advised students to take care of their health, such as eating well, going to bed early, and waking up early to get to the exam room on time. "The teachers all want the candidates to perform their best in this exam," said Ms. Tam.

3,277 exam rooms

This year, the Ho Chi Minh City Departmentof Education and Training has planned 142 exam sites including 132 regular grade 10 exam sites and 10 specialized grade 10 exam sites with a total of 3,277 exam rooms.

Each exam room has a maximum of 24 candidates and ensures a minimum distance of 1.2m between two candidates sitting next to each other horizontally.

To ensure the exam takes place seriously and safely, the department mobilized 9,548 teachers to supervise the exam and 1,846 support staff, and organized inspections of facilities at exam sites on June 4 and applied security procedures similar to those for the high school graduation exam.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that candidates are allowed to bring into the exam room the following tools: pens; rulers; pencils; erasers; set squares; graph rulers; drawing tools; handheld calculators without text editing function, no memory card; no integration; periodic table of chemical elements; grade 9 history and geography atlas - geography section (according to the 2018 general education program - Vietnam Education Publishing House).

Candidates are not allowed to bring into the examination room: carbon paper, erasers, alcoholic beverages; weapons and explosives, flammable substances; documents, communication equipment (receiving, broadcasting information, recording audio, video) or containing information to cheat during the examination; periodic table of chemical elements and solubility tables.

It is known that this year's 10th grade entrance exam has 76,435 candidates registered, a decrease of 27,330 students compared to last year. This year, 115 public high schools in Ho Chi Minh City recruited 70,070 students for 10th grade.

The 2025 Ho Chi Minh City 10th grade entrance exam will take place on June 6 and 7. Candidates will take three subjects: literature, math, and foreign language. Candidates taking the specialized/integrated exam will take an additional specialized/integrated exam.
