Prospects of Strawberry growing model associated with experiential tourism in Chi village

BHG - Located in the middle of a peaceful and poetic valley, the Tay ethnic community cultural tourism village in Chi village, Xuan Giang commune (Quang Binh) has long been a favorite destination for domestic and foreign tourists. To add beauty to the countryside, many villagers have boldly introduced new plant varieties for experimental planting. In particular, the strawberry growing model has brought initial results, creating a new direction for agricultural development associated with eco-tourism and experience.

Chi village is located more than 10 km from the center of Quang Binh district. The village is a valley, surrounded by high mountains. For generations, the Tay ethnic people in the village have lived in traditional stilt houses. Therefore, this place still preserves intact the cultural values of the Tay ethnic community and is uniquely expressed through festivals, beliefs, costumes, weaving, embroidery, and cuisine . In this spring, visitors only need to visit the village to feel the sweet scent of flowers and plants. From afar, Chi village is as beautiful as a picture with hills, green fields, gardens full of flowers and fruits with an extremely fresh and airy space.

Perhaps, thanks to the natural favor, the plants grown in Chi village are very suitable for the soil, giving delicious and sweeter fruits than in other places. With the desire to get rich on her homeland, Ms. Hoang Thi Kiem pioneered the experimental planting of strawberries on an area of 2,000 m2. In the first year of implementation, the strawberry growing model was supported by the district with 50% of the price of seedlings, organic fertilizers, biological pesticides, and plastic covers. Because this is a new variety of plant, she had to research and learn about care techniques while planting. According to Ms. Kiem, strawberries must be planted in places where the soil is loose, the care process must be done according to the correct procedure, requiring meticulousness and diligence to be successful.

Currently, Ms. Kiem's strawberry garden is harvesting regularly. Coming here, visitors can visit, experience, and pick and enjoy sweet strawberries right in the garden. Each visitor who comes to take photos is 10,000 VND/turn, the average price of strawberries is 200,000 VND/kg; this is a fairly new model of agricultural development associated with experiential tourism , so the number of visitors before, during and after the recent Lunar New Year is quite large. This model has helped Ms. Kiem's family have an additional income in addition to homestay services.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Hung, a tourist from Hanoi, shared: “During this Spring trip, our group visited Ha Giang. After finishing the journey to explore the districts of the Stone Plateau, we came to the Chi Village Community Cultural Tourism Village on the occasion of the Long Tong Festival. I found that the culture here is very rich and diverse, the people are gentle, friendly and hospitable. Our group did not forget to save the most beautiful photos to introduce to friends and relatives. One thing that surprised and interested me was the way the people do tourism, both preserving the soul of the countryside and developing farm tourism such as the Strawberry garden, creating a highlight for tourists to visit and experience life”.

In addition to the Strawberry growing model, Chi village is also experimenting with growing some precious flowers and medicinal plants in accordance with the policy and orientation of agricultural development associated with tourism of Quang Binh district. Thereby, contributing to diversifying agricultural products with high economic value in communes and villages of community tourism culture and creating landscapes and ecological environments to attract tourists to increase income for people.
