Dismantling a self-inflicted injury ring that appropriated 6 billion VND in life insurance money

The Criminal Police Department of Phu Tho Province Police has just dismantled an organized self-injury ring that appropriated more than 6 billion VND from many life insurance companies such as Manulife, AIA, Dai-ichi Life, FWD, Sun Life, Chubb Life... Of which, 2.6 billion VND was appropriated from Manulife alone.

Ta Minh Chau is the leader of the ring.

Through the investigation, the Police Investigation Agency clarified that Ta Minh Chau, born in 1995, former officer of the Cam Khe District Medical Center (old), Phu Tho province, was the mastermind and leader.

Taking advantage of his long time working in the medical industry and his deep understanding of bone and joint structure, as well as the insurance payment mechanism for high-value fractures, Chau has set up a systematic profiteering process, from mobilizing insurance purchases, organizing injuries, to legalizing medical records to appropriate money from insurance companies.

Notably, Chau directly injected anesthetic and used a syringe and hammer to impact the insurance buyer's bones, creating fractures similar to real accidents. Once the injuries were created, Chau continued to instruct the subjects to create fake scenes such as electric shock, falling, or slipping and falling into a stream to legitimize the medical records and complete the payment request file.

The investigation agency determined that Chau colluded with Nguyen Thi Hoai Thu and the subjects Nguyen Anh Dung, Ha Thanh Dat, Hoang Van Truong, Hoang Van Thang, Hoang Thi Hong Diep, Hoang Thi Linh... These were all people who directly participated in purchasing insurance under Chau's instructions and were injured by Chau to gain illegal benefits.

Based on the investigation results, the Investigation Police Agency of Phu Tho Province Police has issued an order to detain Ta Minh Chau, Hoang Van Truong, Hoang Van Thang, Hoang Thi Hong Diep and Nguyen Anh Dung in an emergency; and at the same time, temporarily detained 6 related subjects to serve the investigation.

Currently, the Investigation Police Agency of Phu Tho Provincial Police is continuing to expand the investigation and clarify the role of each subject.
