Speaking with Giao Thong Newspaper reporters tonight, a representative of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs said: According to the report dated October 22, the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday plan was selected based on opinions and synthesis from 16 ministries and branches over the past month.
The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs submitted to the Prime Minister a plan for a 9-day Lunar New Year holiday in 2025.
Thirteen out of 13 ministries and sectors agreed (three agencies had no opinion) with the draft plan to extend the Tet holiday, helping workers have more time with their families, stimulating tourism and shopping. If the above plan is approved by the Prime Minister, the Lunar New Year 2025 for officials, civil servants and public employees will last for 9 consecutive days.
Accordingly, the official Tet holiday is from Monday, January 27, 2025, which is December 28, the year of the Dragon, to Friday, January 31, 2025. Immediately before and after the 5 official holidays are the 2 weekend days of January 25-26, 2025 and February 1-2, 2025.
With Tet falling on all 5 working days of the week like this, civil servants and public employees get 9 consecutive days off (including 5 official Tet holidays and 4 weekly days off).
The annual Lunar New Year holiday schedule is for state employees, however, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs encourages businesses to also give employees the above schedule.
For businesses not included in the above categories, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs requires employers to decide on one of three Tet holiday options.
One is to take 1 day off at the end of the year of Giap Thin and 4 days at the beginning of the year of At Ty. Two is to take 2 days off at the end of the year of Giap Thin and 3 days at the beginning of the year of At Ty. Three is to take 3 days off at the end of the year of Giap Thin and 2 days at the beginning of the year of At Ty. Employers must notify employees of the Lunar New Year holiday plan 30 days in advance.
Workers who work overtime or at night during this time will receive at least 300% of their normal salary. Foreigners working in Vietnam will also be given an extra day off for their traditional New Year and their country's National Day, in addition to the general schedule.
