Recently, AFC announced the referee for the match between Vietnam and Japan at the 2023 Asian Cup taking place at 6:30 p.m. on January 14. Accordingly, Korean referee Kim Jong Hyeok will officiate this match.

Assistant referees for Kim Jong Hyoek are Yoon Jae Yeol and Park Sang Jun. The table referee is Mooud Bonyadifard (Iran). The VAR team includes Saeid Ghasemi (Iran), Kim Heegon and Ko Hyung Jin (Korea).
Notably, referee Kim Jong Hyeok is very familiar to Vietnamese fans. The referee, born in 1983, started officiating professionally in 2009.
He started refereeing matches of Vietnamese teams starting from SEA Games 2011. He even refereed the match between Ha Tinh and Hoang Anh Gia Lai in V-League 2022.
Besides, referee Kim Jong Hyoek was invited to Vietnam to officiate matches at Navibank Cup 2011.
The match between Vietnam and Japan took place at Al Thumama Stadium (Doha, Qatar), which hosted matches at the 2022 World Cup (including the quarter-final match between Portugal and Morocco).
