Wang Yi made the statement during a phone call with Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan on the Hamas-Israel conflict.
During the phone call, Mr. Wang Yi stressed that Israel should seriously listen to the calls of the international community and the UN Secretary-General, and end the collective punishment against the people of Gaza. The Chinese Foreign Minister affirmed that "all parties should not take any action to escalate the situation and should return to the negotiating table as soon as possible."
In a separate phone call with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken the same day, Mr. Wang Yi said it was necessary to "convene an international peace conference as soon as possible to promote the goal of reaching broad consensus."
In an effort to ease tensions, China's foreign minister said the country would soon send special envoys to several Middle Eastern countries.
Previously, on October 13, Mr. Wang Yi affirmed that Beijing will continue to stand by the "common aspiration of the majority of countries" on the Palestine issue.
According to China Central Television (CCTV) , Chinese Government Special Envoy for Middle East Affairs Zhai Jun will visit the region next week to push for a ceasefire in the Hamas-Israel conflict and promote peace talks.
