Bananas, durians, and jackfruits are fruits that China imports a lot from Laos, with growth rates ranging from 30% to several times.
The latest report from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development shows that in the first four months of the year, the export value of fruits and vegetables reached 1.39 billion USD, an increase of 19.4% over the same period last year. Of which, fruit and vegetable exports in April increased dramatically by nearly 2 times.
China is currently the leading consumer of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables with 58.7% market share, reaching a value of 576.4 million USD in the first 3 months of the year, an increase of 27.4% over the same period in 2022. In addition, Laos, South Korea, and Japan also increased their imports of Vietnamese fruits, of which fruit and vegetable exports to Laos increased the most, 2.8 times.
Durian, jackfruit, and banana exports have increased dramatically. In the first quarter, Vietnam's durian export turnover reached 153.5 million USD, an increase of more than 8.3 times compared to the same period last year. Of which, China accounted for 87% of the market share with a turnover of 133.6 million USD.

According to durian exporting enterprises, they export thousands of tons to China every month according to orders from partners. Vietnamese durian is ordered in large quantities because of its good quality, suitable for local tastes and more attractive price compared to Malaysian and Thai products.
With bananas, the quality of Vietnamese bananas is also more competitive than that of its Philippine counterpart.
Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, said that Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports are gaining popularity, quality is improving and will continue to be favorable in the second quarter.
China and other countries are increasing the cultivation of durian, dragon fruit and bananas, but according to Mr. Nguyen, Vietnamese products still have their own position. In particular, Vietnamese fruit care techniques produce more delicious quality than those from other regions. In addition, Vietnamese fruits can be grown year-round, while competitors can only grow them in the main season. Therefore, if Vietnamese products can take advantage of growing fruits at times when other countries cannot grow them due to harsh weather, they will not worry about losing market share. Mr. Nguyen predicts that fruit and vegetable exports to China will earn about 2.5 billion USD this year.
Currently, the abundant supply has caused domestic fruit prices to drop sharply. In particular, durian has dropped from a peak of VND200,000 per kilogram to VND55,000. In Tien Giang , each kilogram of Hoa Loc mango costs VND51,000, down VND22,700 compared to last month; Java rambutan costs VND20,800, cheaper by VND2,800; green-skinned grapefruit costs VND23,400, down VND1,200 per kilogram.
