Lieutenant General Nguyen Hong Thai, new Deputy Minister of National Defense

The decision was signed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on April 26.

Lieutenant General Nguyen Hong Thai, 56 years old, has a bachelor's degree in military science , and is from Xuan Truc commune, An Thi district, Hung Yen province. He is a member of the 13th Party Central Committee and a delegate to the 14th National Assembly.

Mr. Thai has held the positions of Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Phu Tho Provincial Military Party Committee, and Commander of the Phu Tho Provincial Military Command. In September 2016, he was appointed Deputy Commander of Military Region 2.

In July 2018, he became Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Military Region 2, and 4 months later, Commander of the Hanoi Capital Command. He has held the position of Commander of Military Region 1 since October 2019.

The current Minister of Defense is General Phan Van Giang, the Director of the General Political Department is Senior Lieutenant General Trinh Van Quyet, and the Chief of the General Staff and Deputy Minister of Defense is General Nguyen Tan Cuong.

The remaining Deputy Ministers of Defense are Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong; Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien; Senior Lieutenant General Le Huy Vinh; Senior Lieutenant General Vu Hai San; Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hoai Nam and Lieutenant General Nguyen Hong Thai.
