Ams School Wins Global Student AI Competition

VnExpressVnExpress12/06/2023

Five Ams students were among the 10 winning teams at Imagine Cup Junior - an artificial intelligence (AI) application challenge organized by Microsoft.

According to Microsoft's announcement on June 11, the GOATS Vietnam team of 5 students from Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted won the prize with a smart lighting system based on AI artificial intelligence technology (IntelliGrow).

The group includes Le Kien Anh, Nguyen Ngoc Bao Han, Chu Quynh Nhi, Pham Thai Phuong (grade 11 English 1) and Tran Phu Thanh (grade 11 IT 1), under the guidance of teacher Nguyen Thanh Tung.

"We are surprised and happy. This result helps the group believe in the project we are working on," said Nguyen Ngoc Bao Han.

According to Han, IntelliGrow is a smart lighting system that automatically adjusts and controls light based on sensors to ensure optimal performance (minimizing power consumption while maintaining adequate light) and eye protection. This is the group's solution to the current power shortage.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung said that the group's project is superior to other products on the market thanks to its versatility and application of artificial intelligence.

"There is no product on the market that applies AI to adjust light intensity," said Mr. Tung. The most important thing, according to this teacher, is that students learn how to apply the knowledge they have learned in practice. This is the second year that Ams has participated in the competition. Last year, the school's team was in the top 20.
