“Initiative to develop and provide accessible smart healthcare solutions on a global scale” is a collaboration between VinUni and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC, USA) to fund ten collaborative research projects to conduct research in the fields of data science, artificial intelligence, biosensors, informatics and applications in smart healthcare. Digital solutions aim to enhance the sustainability of the healthcare system, reduce the burden on the public healthcare system, and contribute to improving the quality of life for communities around the world.
The total investment of the VinUni–Illinois Smart Health Center (VISHC) for the projects is 13.5 million USD, mainly providing solutions to monitor and improve health for people around the world. The project will also provide training costs for 50 PhDs, 50 masters and hundreds of research assistants at both VinUni and UIUC.
One of the project's outstanding products is "VAIPE: Smart healthcare monitoring and support system for Vietnamese people". The project is funded by VinIF Fund and developed by VISHC Center and partners at BKAI Center, Hanoi University of Science and Technology. The solution provides a mobile platform that allows the collection, management, and analysis of health data of individuals. For example, medication habits, heart rate, blood pressure, height, weight, and other important health indicators will be collected via smartphones. From there, the analysis solution aims to provide recommendations on safe medication use, warnings about taking the wrong medication, taking medication outside of the prescription, and early diagnosis of diseases.
VAIPE provides a mobile platform that allows collection, management, analysis of personal health data, and automatic drug identification from pill images.
Sharing about the project's goals, Dr. Pham Huy Hieu, Deputy Director of the VinUni–Illinois Smart Health Center (VISHC), co-director of the project, said: “Our research projects focus on solving urgent and large-scale health challenges. We connect domestic and international experts in many fields to develop digital health solutions that are cheaper, more accessible, and easier to use. This is how we popularize and bring the value of technology to everyone, regardless of where they come from, their family background, or their educational background.”
“VISHC is an exciting project, offering an innovative solution to the growing health and wellbeing of people, linked to sustainability,” said Victoria Smith, CEO of ISCN. “With a unique approach to smart technologies, this project has the potential to advance medical research and reduce the burden on healthcare systems, contributing to improving the quality of life for communities around the world. With its commitment and innovation based on the ISCN guiding and operational criteria, I hope VISHC will be an inspiring project for everyone.”
