Vietnam's National Assembly has set a GDP growth target of 6.5-7% by 2025, but the government expects the economy to grow beyond this target.

According to the website iseas.edu.sg of the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS–Yusof Ishak, Singapore), there are many factors that can positively contribute to Vietnam's economic prospects in 2025 such as strong export growth, large inflows of foreign investment, strong domestic reforms under the direction of the new leadership, and increased infrastructure investment...

However, there are also some major challenges such as global economic fluctuations or domestic issues such as power shortages and relatively weak consumption.

Also related to this issue, aseanbriefing.com (Germany) has an article stating that Vietnam's e-commerce industry is growing rapidly thanks to its young, tech-savvy population and the level of social media integration. This brings great opportunities for businesses.

Key trends include the rise of social commerce, digital payments and cross-border trade, positioning Vietnam as a key player in Southeast Asia’s digital economy.

Vietnam's e-commerce market has become one of the fastest growing industries in Southeast Asia. According to a report by Google, Temasek and Bain & Company, Vietnam's digital economy will have a gross merchandise value (GMV) of 36 billion USD in 2024, an increase of 5 billion USD compared to 2023, and is expected to reach 90-200 billion USD by 2030. In the e-commerce industry alone, GMV will reach 22 billion USD in 2024, an increase of 3 billion USD compared to 2023, and is expected to increase to 63 billion USD by 2030.

Key drivers of the rapid growth of e-commerce in Vietnam include widespread mobile penetration, integration of social media and social commerce, an expanding middle class, and increasing urbanization. In addition, Vietnam is also expanding its participation in free trade agreements (FTAs), facilitating B2B trade.

In addition, Vietnam’s strategic location and improved infrastructure make it an ideal hub for cross-border e-commerce. Government investments in digital infrastructure, including the National Digital Transformation Program to simplify customs procedures, improve internet connectivity and strengthen the payment system, further boost Vietnam’s potential as a cross-border e-commerce destination.

Vietnam’s e-commerce market is expected to exceed $25 billion by 2025, marking a major milestone in its digital transformation. With 116 foreign suppliers on its e-commerce portal and direct revenue from these platforms growing by 26%, Vietnam is driving domestic e-commerce growth to become a major player in cross-border e-commerce.

For companies looking to establish or increase their presence in Southeast Asia, 2025 will be a pivotal year to tap into the full potential of Vietnam’s digital economy.
