- "No crossing the border, no existence in circulation, no gathering point, no place for consumption" is the motto of Lang Son province's authorities during the peak period of fighting against smuggling of food of unknown origin. More than 10 tons of goods seized in the past half month are clear evidence of this determination.
On May 15, 2025, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed Official Dispatch No. 65/CD-TTg on launching a peak period (from May 15, 2025 to June 15, 2025) to combat, prevent and repel smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and infringement of intellectual property rights (IPR). In order to implement this direction, relevant levels and sectors in Lang Son have been actively implementing it.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Dai, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, Deputy Head of the Provincial Steering Committee 389, said: Recently, the demand for processed and packaged food products (sausages, squid balls, fish balls, boneless chicken feet, spicy chicken feet, pickled vegetables), frozen livestock and poultry products, etc. has increased. Therefore, smugglers and greedy business owners have imported smuggled food products of unknown origin to sell to consumers. Implementing the Prime Minister 's Official Dispatch No. 65 and the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, the Provincial Steering Committee 389 has resolutely directed relevant agencies and units to increase the frequency of inspection and control of the transportation and trading of goods. One of the key items that need to be prevented at this time is smuggled food of unknown origin.
Accordingly, the authorities have been taking drastic measures, synchronously implementing measures to prevent food of unknown origin and smuggled food, and have achieved certain results.
Mr. Dang Van Ngoc, Head of the Market Management Department of Lang Son province, said: Implementing the Official Dispatch No. 65 and the direction of the province, the Department has directed the Market Management teams to deploy measures to control and prevent the transportation, trading, and illegal trading of dirty foods and foods of unknown origin in the market and in circulation. Accordingly, the Market Management force of the whole province has discovered and arrested a number of transportation cases, including some types of food that consumers often use such as: pig organs, chicken feet, sausages, some spices... of unknown origin or originating from China.
Along with the Market Management force, forces including border guards, customs, police... also simultaneously mobilized, synchronously and drastically deployed measures to prevent smuggled goods, goods of unknown origin... during this peak period.
Colonel Nong Quang Tam, Deputy Commander of the Provincial Border Guard Command, said: Since May 15, the leaders of the Provincial Border Guard Command have directed specialized departments and border posts to increase forces at teams, checkpoints, and control stations to tighten control of entry, exit, and import and export at border gates or at trails and openings on the border to thoroughly prevent the illegal transportation and storage of smuggled food of unknown origin.
On the customs side, in recent days, they have also increased coordination in patrolling and controlling closed border gate areas to closely monitor vehicles carrying imported goods through the border gate area to detect and prevent shipments of frozen food inserted into import containers and prevent subjects from transporting frozen food of unknown origin through border trails.
With active participation, from May 15 to now, the functional forces of the whole province have discovered and arrested 17 cases of transporting and trading smuggled food of unknown origin, seizing more than 10 tons of various types of food, this volume doubled compared to the first 4 months of 2025.
Highlight is the day On May 23, Market Management Team No. 7, Provincial Market Management Department coordinated with the Economic Police Department, Provincial Police and Provincial Team 389 to conduct an inspection and discovered a business household in Coc Nam village, Tan My commune, Van Lang district storing more than 1,230 kg of food products produced outside Vietnam, of unknown origin. Thereby, the authorities seized nearly 500 kg of various sausages and more than 400 kg of food including Pork intestines, pork brain, pork jaw, young chicken eggs, chicken feet, chicken wings, frozen beef belly.
The amount of smuggled food of unknown origin seized during the peak period above is only the initial figure. Continuing to carry out this task, in the coming time, the authorities will focus on strictly controlling each shipment and each food item circulating in the area. However, in order for "clean" food to truly reach consumers, each individual and business needs to raise awareness and say no to smuggled goods of unknown origin. Only then can we contribute to protecting the health of consumers.
