By combining the strengths and resources of both sides, this relationship aims to provide an extensive and seamless flight network for passengers between Vietnam and China through flight schedule coordination and codeshare cooperation.
To facilitate connecting flights, the two airlines have implemented a connecting check-in service, allowing passengers to receive boarding passes for up to three consecutive flights at their first departure point.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung, Head of Planning and Development at Vietnam Airlines, said that the joint venture with China Southern Airlines marks a new chapter in the cooperative relationship between the two airlines, demonstrating Vietnam Airlines' shared commitment to providing superior value and convenient connections for passengers flying between China and Vietnam.
According to Zhang Dongsheng, Deputy General Manager of the Trade Steering Committee of China Southern Airlines, the joint venture with Vietnam Airlines is a significant step in China Southern Airlines' internationalization strategy. The airline will link the Greater Bay Area route with Vietnam's "Two Corridors, One Belt" initiative, promoting regional economic , trade, and cultural exchanges by establishing an air bridge between the Greater Bay Area (Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau) and Vietnam.
Through this partnership, the two airlines aim to enhance air connectivity and make a tangible contribution to the economic, cultural, and social development between the two countries. This joint venture reflects a long-term vision to provide more choices, better service, and greater convenience for passengers in both countries.
Vietnam Airlines, as the national airline of Vietnam, boasts an extensive route network with direct flights between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Beijing, as well as between Nha Trang and Tianjin, Wuhan, Nanjing, Shanghai, Jinan, Changzhou, and Wuxi. During peak season, the airline operates more than 50 flights per week.
Currently, China Southern Airlines operates direct flights from Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Changsha, Wuhan, and Shanghai to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Nha Trang, with peak frequencies reaching up to 111 flights per week.
