The South China Morning Post reported on June 11 that an 8-year-old boy in Shaanxi province (China) played guitar and sang on the street on May 17 to raise money.

The lesson is to take responsibility for your actions.

The boy performed next to a sign that read: “I damaged the wall at school and need to earn 300 yuan (VND1 million) to compensate.”

“My son scribbled on a newly painted wall at his primary school. After discussing it with the school board, we decided to compensate him. My husband and I hope he learns a lesson and must take responsibility for his actions,” said the boy’s father, Mr. Huang.

The father added that his son sang on the street for 3 days, 1 hour each day and earned enough money to compensate the school.

The image of a boy singing on the street went viral on Chinese social media, attracting many comments agreeing with this "creative" way of raising children.

“I strongly agree with this method of parenting. It will teach children that they must pay the price for their wrongdoings so that they do not repeat them,” one user commented on Sina Weibo.

“Singing on the bus can also help the boy gain confidence and practice his guitar playing skills. I think this is a win-win way to teach children,” another person commented.

Using artificial intelligence to teach children

In recent years, creative parenting methods (different from traditional strict measures) have often attracted attention in China.

In November 2023, a mother with a PhD used an artificial intelligence (AI) app to comfort her 5-year-old son, who had fallen off his skateboard at the playground and was ridiculed by other parents.

His parents tried their best to comfort him, but he was still upset. Out of options, his mother, a PhD graduate from Peking University, suggested that the AI tool (chatbot) stand in her son’s shoes and criticize those who mocked him.

The chatbot immediately responded: “The actions of those people are too much. How could they treat a child like that? It is upsetting to witness things like this. They should know that their actions are completely wrong. Laughing at a child who falls down is a lack of empathy.”

The mother also had the chatbot play the audio for her son to listen to. The chatbot’s “objective perspective” soothed her son’s feelings, according to the mother.

Previously, in August 2023, a mother (Jiangsu province, China) took her son to the police station because of rude behavior. When meeting the police, the child promised to be obedient, not to use vulgar language and to learn to respect others.
