Ly Hai and experts discuss special effects at cinetour 'Vietnamese 2025'

After the first season, the Vietnamese Short Film Contest - Vietnamese 2025 continues to be held, inviting young people to tell their own stories in a unique cinematic language.

This year, to help young filmmakers prepare for the competition, cinetours are being held by the Organizing Committee and accompanying units at many universities with special guests, hoping to provide more knowledge and understanding of many stages in short films in particular and cinema in general.

At 2:00 p.m. this afternoon, June 6, a cinetour with the theme of Utilizing technology in film production was held at Van Lang University (HCMC). With the rapid development of technology, the application of this element in film production is not only a story of special effects but also of filming techniques, storage, and optimization of the film production process. In particular, it is impossible not to mention film special effects - especially CGI (a method of using computers to simulate images, creating scenes that cannot be performed in reality). Attending the program are experts in this technology, from working directly to taking on the role of overview and orientation for the work. They include director and producer Ly Hai - the person behind the hit series Lat mat; visual effects supervisor Tin Nguyen, who has participated in 30 works, including Detective Kien: Headless Case, The Price of Happiness, Southern Forest Land, Netflix series Chicken nugget; and director, producer, on-site visual effects supervisor Hoang Long of many works such as Em va Trinh, Thanh soi, Southern Forest Land...

Here, guests discussed the application of technology in films, the current status of applying special effects and the potential to turn special effects into a strongly developing creative industry (especially in the Asia- Pacific region ) when 60% of 3D-VFX studios in Vietnam are cooperating with international partners...

With the theme Vietnamese , contestants who are Vietnamese citizens and foreigners living and working legally in Vietnam from 15 years old and above can exploit all topics permitted by the Cinema Law, related to the country and people of Vietnam. Contestants can use works they have created (as a director or screenwriter) within the past 3 years, and have never participated in other competitions or film festivals. In particular, contestants can take advantage of AI software in the process of creating their works.

Right from the preliminary round, short films that meet quality standards will be selected to be published on Thanh Nien Electronic Newspaper thanhnien.vn . After that, 20 short films that make it to the final round will be published on Thanh Nien Newspaper's digital platforms, including the YouTube channel with more than 6 million subscribers.

The contest officially accepts entries from May 23 to July 7, 2025. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in August at Beta Cinemas Ung Van Khiem (Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City).
