NDO - It is forecasted that from October to December, the activity of storms/tropical depressions in the East Sea is likely to be higher than the average of many years; in which, the number of storms making landfall may be higher, concentrated in the Central region and the southern provinces. In addition, during this period, cold air is likely to be active, and severe cold in the North may appear from the second half of December.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, ENSO is currently in a neutral state. From October to December, ENSO is likely to transition to La Nina with a probability of 60-70%. Accordingly, the average temperature in October nationwide is forecast to be 0.5-1 degree Celsius higher than the average of many years. In November and December, the average temperature is generally approximately the same; in the Northern and North-Central Central regions, it is likely to be about 0.5 degree Celsius lower than the average of many years in the same period. From October to December, storm/tropical depression activity in the East Sea is forecast to be approximately to higher than the average of many years (average of many years: 4.5 storms); In which the number of storms making landfall may be higher than the average of many years (average of many years: 1.9 storms) and concentrated in the Central region and the southern provinces. Regarding the flood situation in the last months of 2024, in the Northern region in October, on the Northern rivers, there is a possibility of floods with peak water levels on major rivers at alert level 1, and small rivers at alert level 1-alarm level 2. In November and December, river water levels change slowly. In the North Central region, from October to November, rivers in Thanh Hoa are likely to experience 1-2 small floods; rivers in Nghe An and Ha Tinh are likely to experience 3-4 floods. The peak flood level in the downstream of Ma River fluctuates at level 1, the downstream of Ca and La Rivers at level 1-level 2 and above level 2. In December, the water level on the rivers gradually decreases. In the Central Central region from October to December, there is a possibility of 3-5 floods on the rivers, in which major floods on the rivers are mainly concentrated from October to November. The peak flood level on the rivers is likely to be at level 2-level 3, some rivers are above level 3. In the Central Highlands region from October to November, there is a possibility of 3-5 floods on the rivers; the peak flood level is at level 2-level 3, some rivers are above level 3. In the Southern region, from October to December, there is a possibility of 2-3 floods on the Dong Nai River. In addition, the water level of the Mekong River gradually rises, peaking around October and fluctuating above alert level 1; the peak flood level at downstream stations of the Mekong River is at alert level 2-3 and above alert level 3, appearing in October-December.
