Revolutionary journalism is always militant.

According to a VNA correspondent in Laos, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025), Pasaxon - the mouthpiece of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party - published an editorial "Revolutionary press always has a combative nature", affirming that President Ho Chi Minh's viewpoint on the combative nature of revolutionary press is one of the most fundamental viewpoints.

The article emphasizes that throughout his life of revolutionary activities, President Ho Chi Minh always considered revolutionary journalism an important part of the revolutionary struggle of the Party and the nation. The struggle went through many different periods, especially after gaining power and carrying out the national liberation struggle towards socialism. It was a comprehensive and arduous struggle, including military, political , economic - cultural - social, and foreign affairs of revolutionary soldiers, requiring sacrifice. Revolutionary journalism was a specific battlefield on the ideological and cultural front in general.

Speaking about the fighting spirit of revolutionary journalism, at the 2nd Congress of the Vietnam Journalists Association in April 1959, President Ho Chi Minh said: “Our press must be the one serving the working people, serving socialism, serving the revolutionary struggle for national reunification, for world peace. Our press is not for a small number of people to read, but to serve the people, to propagate and explain the Party and Government's policies and guidelines, so it must have a mass character and fighting spirit.”

Therefore, all journalists, including writers, printers, editors, publishers... must have a firm political ideology, be self-reliant, and have the right political line in conjunction with other jobs.

The article recalls that in his speech at the Third Conference of the Vietnam Journalists Association (September 8, 1962), President Ho Chi Minh pointed out: “Journalists are also revolutionary soldiers. Pens and paper are their sharp weapons”. And in his congratulatory telegram to the Asian-African Journalists Association on April 24, 1965, President Ho Chi Minh wrote: “For our journalists - newspaper writers, the pen is a sharp weapon. The articles published in our newspapers are what attract revolutionaries, aiming to mobilize the masses to unite and fight”.

The combative nature of revolutionary journalism is also reflected in its righteousness, clearly demonstrating the goals, guidelines, and policies of the Party, and the implementation of the State's guidelines and plans, in order to mobilize the masses to voluntarily participate in the revolution.

In his work “Revolutionary Path”, Nguyen Ai Quoc pointed out that the greatest task was to liberate the people from the chains of slavery, which could not be accomplished without concentrating all his efforts. In his Letter calling for a General Uprising on August 18, 1945, he wrote: “The decisive hour for the fate of our nation has come. The entire nation, let us rise up and use our own strength to liberate ourselves…”.

The editorial stated that President Ho Chi Minh emphasized that the State of the people is clearly reflected in the Party and State's guidelines and policies. If there are correct guidelines and policies, the implementation will be faster, the more they will enter into people's lives and the more creativity there will be. The new life must be hard-working, thrifty, honest, upright and fair. The new life does not mean throwing away everything old, not everything must be renewed. Anything old and bad must be thrown away, anything old but not bad but annoying and troublesome must be adjusted to suit, and anything old but still good must be further developed.

The author of the editorial stated that building a new society - a new life is a glorious struggle, although it does not necessarily involve bloodshed, but it is extremely difficult and complicated. It requires sacrifice and struggle, no different from wartime. The new society is beautiful, but the path to building a new society - a truly socialist society, is a society filled with fragrant flowers and sweet fruits. In the struggle for a new society, the new and the old, the bad, the evil and the good, the right and the wrong will constantly intertwine, there will be struggle and mutual restriction, but in the end, victory must depend on the new, the good and the right.

The article concludes that the combative nature of the press must be strongly demonstrated, highlighting positive elements, setting examples of what is right and good. The new and progressive become a comprehensive process. At the same time, we must strongly criticize all negative elements, criticize the wrong, the bad, the backward, narrow down and move forward. Building and fighting are two sides of the same problem, we must build to fight, fight to build, in which building is the most solid foundation.
