From a student with difficult circumstances, cycling more than 15 km to school every day, up to now, male student Nguyen Tien Vuong (21 years old), living on Truong Van Hai Street, Thu Duc City (HCMC) has worked for 3 non -governmental organizations with many impressive achievements.

Constant effort

Vuong was born in Minh Dang commune, Bu Dang district (Binh Phuoc). Although his family's circumstances were difficult, he was an excellent student for many years. After graduating from high school, this male student planned to go to university but encountered economic barriers.

“At that time, my older sister was in college, so my parents couldn’t afford to pay for both of us. So I enrolled in a college and worked part-time at a coffee shop to pay for it myself,” Vuong said.

In mid-2022, Vuong worked in foreign affairs for Van Lang University, Ho Chi Minh City. Every day, Vuong woke up at 5 am to cycle from Thu Duc City to Binh Thanh District to work and then returned to school in the afternoon. “In 2022, I received a scholarship worth 25 million VND from The Dariu Foundation (Switzerland) to promote digitaleducation for young people and received a Google Self Promotion Skill certificate on self-development skills. From then on, I started participating in many organizations,” he said.

In early 2023, Vuong joined Save Vietnam's Wildlife and moved to Nam Cat Tien forest (Dong Nai) to work for 2 months as a post-release wildlife supervisor in Lam Dong, Dong Nai, and Binh Phuoc provinces. After that, Vuong was invited to work at many large organizations that incubate startup skills for students, such as: Ho Chi Minh City Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, The Dariu Foundation... In addition, Vuong is also a community development and partnership specialist at the Huynh Tan Phat Scholarship Fund.

With his current job, this male student has an income of more than 16 million VND/month even though he has not graduated yet and has achieved many impressive achievements, such as: second prize in the "Startup Launchpad" competition organized by The Dariu Foundation in 2022, 4th place in Ho Chi Minh City in the "Century Vision 2021" competition...

New direction for career development

Ms. Nguyen Thi Van Khanh, currently project coordinator of Save Vietnam's Wildlife, said: "With the specific nature of the work of non-governmental organizations, young people who participate will have the opportunity to develop their knowledge, professional skills as well as work experience in a dynamic environment. From there, they will find solutions to overcome social problems."

Tien Vuong said that currently in Vietnam there are nearly 600 different non-governmental organizations and participating in these organizations can help young people find new directions for their career development.

Talking about the reason for joining the NGO, Tien Vuong said: “I want to have the opportunity to work in many different environments. Organizations help me learn, develop my capacity in many fields and be able to participate in many job positions.”

By participating in many organizations like now, Vuong can be a tour guide, ecosystem researcher, project manager, content creator...

However, joining these organizations requires a lot of requirements, so most young people will work as collaborators, while official positions will require factors such as international certificates, excellent academic achievements and great vision.

“Depending on the organization, there will be different strictness, but all must ensure international certificates and foreign languages. When joining these organizations, you will definitely do things that you have never experienced before, such as going into the forest with a backpack of more than 10 kg and constantly holding a detector to collect data, so it requires a lot of diligence,” said Vuong.

As the person who directly works with this male student, Ms. Van Khanh shared: “Tien Vuong is a dynamic young person and very dedicated to the organization. Through the challenges of work, Vuong is always progressive, ready to learn to improve himself, so I really respect and appreciate Vuong's contributions to community development projects or education for young people."
