On March 13, 2025, the Provincial General Hospital used the remote medical examination and treatment system to participate in the "Remote medical examination and treatment consultation" program of the Central Obstetrics Hospital. In the program, experts from the Central Obstetrics Hospital provided detailed advice on cases of amniotic fluid embolism in pregnant women, how to handle and provide emergency care for patients, how to perform some tests for diagnosis and treatment, and the appropriate dosage of drugs for patients... Through consultation, doctors at the Provincial General Hospital have gained more knowledge and experience in diagnosing and treating patients, thereby improving the level of emergency care, treatment, and saving the lives of pregnant women with amniotic fluid embolism that progresses rapidly and severely.
Dr. Dang Huy Du, Deputy Director of the Provincial General Hospital, said: From 2021 to now, the hospital has participated in remote medical examination and treatment consultation, consulting 38 cases online with Bach Mai Hospital, Hanoi Heart Hospital, Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, K Hospital, National Children's Hospital... At the same time, he chaired and organized remote medical examination and treatment consultation sessions for 52 emergency cases and difficult cases of district hospitals. Difficult cases are directly connected between provincial and district doctors, with the participation of leading experts from the central government to discuss and come up with optimal treatment plans. We find that remote medical examination and treatment is an effective form of training for lower-level doctors. Instead of having to return to Hanoi to attend short-term classes, doctors in the district can now learn right at the hospital through each actual case.
From 2024 to present, hospitals in the area have organized 197 remote medical consultation sessions (193 sessions in 2024 alone, an increase of 114 sessions compared to 2023) for over 200 patients with 115 medical facilities and over 700 medical staff attending. |
Together with the Provincial General Hospital, remote medical examination and treatment consultation has been implemented at 14/14 provincial and district hospitals since 2020 and has shown practical effectiveness in promptly resolving difficulties and problems of hospitals in the process of examining and treating patients. In particular, through this form, doctors at lower levels can easily exchange knowledge and medical examination and treatment methods, consult with experts at higher levels, thereby providing effective treatment plans.
Dr. Hoang Van Noi, Head of the Department of Surgery, Anesthesia, and Resuscitation, Loc Binh District Medical Center, said: In the past, when encountering complicated cases, I often had to be referred to a higher level and only learned the treatment results later. However, since participating in the remote medical examination and treatment system, I have not only learned how to diagnose but also confidently provided on-site treatment. At first, I was a bit worried when I had to present to doctors at higher-level hospitals, but gradually, thanks to careful guidance, I have gained a lot of experience. There are cases that I once thought were mandatory for referral, but now they can be successfully treated right in the district. Doctors in the department have improved their qualifications, confidently implementing remote consultations, and consulting with commune-level health stations when there are difficult cases.
From 2024 to present, hospitals in the area have organized 197 remote medical consultation sessions (193 sessions in 2024 alone, an increase of 114 sessions compared to 2023) for over 200 patients with 115 medical facilities and over 700 medical staff attending.
Ms. Hoang Thi Sam, Tan Lien commune, Cao Loc district, once suffered a mild stroke but was effectively monitored and treated at the district level thanks to remote consultation. Ms. Sam confided: Now at the district hospital, patients are examined very carefully, diagnosed accurately, and treated effectively. Before, for any illness, we had to go to the provincial level for examination, but now we feel much more secure because the doctors here are guided by medical experts at large hospitals via the screen.
Thus, remote medical consultation is not only a temporary solution in the context of the previous COVID-19 pandemic, but is gradually becoming a part of Lang Son's smart healthcare system, helping people enjoy high-quality healthcare services and creating an environment for continuous training for grassroots medical staff , aiming at the goal of comprehensive and effective healthcare for people in the community.
In the coming time, the Department of Health will continue to invest in infrastructure, improve information technology skills and expertise for medical staff, especially in mountainous and border districts, while expanding the scope of connection to commune health stations, enhancing training on technology application and standardizing remote consultation procedures.
