“ 2017: I was a math major at Lam Son High School for the Gifted, and won first prize in a monthly knowledge contest on television. I was full of potential and ambition. I thought: 'Oh, I'm pretty good! In the future, I'll probably work for this or that corporation and earn a huge income.'
2025: I am a normal grocer, not good at making money.
This is the story of a young man named Tran Duy Trinh (25 years old, currently living in Thanh Hoa ) that has received much attention from the community in recent days.
Tran Duy Trinh was a math major at Lam Son High School for the Gifted - a famous specialized school in Thanh Hoa.
In 2017, Tran Duy Trinh won first prize in the monthly contest Am vang xu Thanh - a game show specializing in general knowledge competitions for high school students, similar to Duong len dinh Olympia but on a provincial scale (broadcast on Thanh Hoa Radio and Television).
After that, Trinh passed the university entrance exam and studied Mechatronic Engineering at the University of Technology - Vietnam National University, Hanoi . While working in Hanoi, Trinh worked in the media field.

Trinh shared that she once struggled to find a suitable career and choose a path for herself.
With the burden of high living costs in Hanoi, after many ups and downs, in October 2024, Trinh decided to return to her hometown and sell groceries with her parents.
“The decision to leave the city and return to the countryside was first sparked during the April 30 holiday in 2023 when I found that going back to the countryside was fun and easy to take pictures. In September 2024, when I went back to the countryside for the holiday and saw that my parents' health was declining due to overwork, I planned to quit my job a few months after Tet and move back to the countryside to help my parents. However, my job in Hanoi had some problems, so in October 2024, I decided to go back to the countryside,” Trinh said.
After 6 years of struggling in the capital, Trinh gradually learned to know enough and her own limits.
“I realized that making money is also a field in life and being good at academic knowledge does not mean that I am an all-rounder. So the fact that I am not good at making money is the truth and I need to accept it,” the 25-year-old man shared.
However, accepting that does not mean stopping trying. Trinh still keeps learning knowledge and trying to increase her income. In addition to selling groceries to help her parents, Trinh also works as a media for a company specializing in producing tea bags in her hometown. Although it is just a normal job and the income is not high, in return Trinh feels less pressure.
“As long as we keep trying and stay calm, we will see opportunities,” Trinh shared.

Having studied Math, won high prizes in competitions, and been ambitious... now selling groceries at home, Trinh believes that it is not a waste, but that past results have always silently shaped the way he lives and works today.
As someone who likes peace and dislikes hustle and bustle, after nearly half a year, Trinh feels more comfortable returning to her hometown.
“Going back to my hometown simply means going back to the place where I was born and raised, not necessarily the countryside. Even in the countryside today, there are many businesses that are gradually modernizing. For example, the place I work for is a tea bag manufacturing company, although it is located in Trieu Son district, it still carries out marketing and sales activities no different from businesses in big cities. Going back to my hometown, I still work in the media industry, the job is no different from in Hanoi. Currently, businesses are gradually transforming to digital platforms, so opportunities for young people are very open,” Trinh said.
The young man said that his decision was both an escape and a new challenge. “Escaping the hustle and bustle of the city because of stress and not being able to find a way to develop, but returning to the countryside also brought new challenges because the work had different characteristics compared to the city,” Trinh said.
Trinh said that the decision to return to his hometown does not mean he has chosen a leisurely life. He still works regularly, sometimes even busy from morning to night. “The work is still full of challenges, not to mention the development opportunities are more open than in a big city. I don’t think I am outstanding, because I am just an ordinary person and still am, it’s just that when I was young, I had a lot of expectations. I feel fine being an ordinary person,” Trinh said.
The 25-year-old man hopes to promote and bring agricultural products from his hometown Thanh Hoa to all parts of the country in the future.
