Dong Thap Youth: Joining hands to push back drugs

In recent times, the Youth Union at all levels in Dong Thap province has carried out many practical activities to help young people raise awareness, proactively prevent, fight and say no to drugs. From propaganda, education, rehabilitation to support community reintegration, the movement "Youth say no to drugs" has gradually spread strongly, becoming a bright spot in the work of preventing and combating social evils in the locality.

CREATE A HEALTHY LIVING ENVIRONMENT

According to the Standing Committee of Dong Thap Provincial Youth Union, in the third quarter of 2025, the propaganda work on drug prevention and control was widely deployed, attracting tens of thousands of union members, youth and teenagers to participate. The Youth Union at all levels organized more than 450 propaganda sessions; 1,350 extracurricular activities; nearly 3,600 youth, teenagers and students attended seminars, forums and competitions to learn about the harmful effects of drugs.

My Thanh Commune Youth Union coordinated with My Thanh Commune Police and My Thanh Nam Secondary School to organize a propaganda session to disseminate and educate students about traffic safety laws, drug prevention, electronic cigarettes and cyber security.

In many middle schools, high schools and vocational training institutions, "Drug Prevention Information Corners" are regularly maintained to help students update their knowledge, improve their legal awareness and self-protection skills.

At the same time, the model “One law a day for youth and children” was deployed synchronously, disseminating legal regulations related to drugs and social evils through public bulletin boards, social networks, and electronic newsletters of the Youth Union - Association - Team. Many localities also creatively organized skits, dramatized, and integrated propaganda content into the activities of Youth Union branches, associations, and clubs.

Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union Le Hoang Quyet said: “The work of preventing and combating drug use among young people does not stop at propaganda, but must create a healthy living environment and a useful playground for them to practice and express themselves. When young people have faith and a beautiful ideal of life, they will isolate themselves from the temptation of drugs.”

On that basis, many models have proven effective such as: "Lighting up the faith" Club, "Youth with the law" Club, "Lighting up the dream of reformation" Club, "Bright - green - clean - secure" routes. These models not only help propagate and reform young people who violate the law, but also create an environment for exchange, sharing, and support for people after drug rehabilitation to reintegrate into the community and improve their lives.
“GREEN SHIELD” PROTECTING THE YOUNG GENERATION

To lead drug prevention and control work in the province, Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee issued Resolution No. 01 dated October 3, 2025 on "Strengthening leadership and direction of drug prevention and control work among youth and adolescents by 2030".

Youth Union members of Phu Huu commune responded to the Online Contest to Learn Legal Knowledge in the province in 2025; at the same time, propagandized about the harmful effects of drugs for young people.

The resolution clearly states the goal: By 2030, 90% of adolescents addicted to or illegally using drugs will be managed, counseled, treated, supported with employment and community integration; each year, at least 5% of drug-related law violations involving adolescents will be reduced.

To achieve this goal, Party committees, authorities and organizations are required to strengthen coordination in propaganda, education, management and support work. In particular, the Youth Union plays a core role in mobilizing, guiding lifestyles and arousing awareness of drug prevention among young people.

Dong Thap Provincial Youth Union identified the key task in the fourth quarter of 2025 as maintaining the "Journey of Faith" Program - a series of forums, exchanges, and talks to propagate drug prevention and control in key areas; at the same time, developing the "Green Shield" model - an electronic handbook on crime prevention and control, helping union members easily access official information and promptly report violations.

Along with that, the Youth Union at all levels continues to review and reform youth at risk of breaking the law, support reformed youth and post-addiction youth to develop the economy and stabilize their lives. Many small livelihood models, loan support, and job referrals have been implemented to help them avoid relapse, contributing to building a safe and healthy community.

In drug prevention and control work, young people are not only the target of propaganda, but also the active participants in the fight and prevention.

Many union members boldly denounced crimes and promptly detected violations; Union bases actively integrated the content of "Youth volunteers to maintain security and order" into the movement "All people protect national security".

The activities of "Self-managed People's Groups" and "Safe communes and wards in terms of security and order" are maintained effectively, mobilizing community strength in preventing drug abuse.

According to comrade Le Hoang Quyet, drug prevention and control among youths needs to be carried out “early, from afar, from the grassroots”, associated with building a positive living environment, arousing the desire to contribute of the youth. Today’s youth not only know how to say no to drugs, but also spread the message of living beautifully and usefully to friends and the community.

From the results achieved, the movement “Youth say no to drugs” in Dong Thap has been creating a clear change in the awareness of young people. With the support of the Youth Union, the coordination of sectors, levels and families - schools - society, Dong Thap youth are increasingly aware of their responsibility to the community.

In the coming time, the Provincial Youth Union will continue to focus on improving the quality of propaganda activities, expanding forums for interaction with young people, promoting digital transformation in legal education; at the same time, maintaining effective models of educating and helping disadvantaged young people. Each member and young person is a "green shield" contributing to protecting the younger generation from the dangers of drugs, building a peaceful, developed and aspirational Dong Thap.
