Cattle farming has long been not only a livelihood but also a valuable asset of each family, closely associated with customs, lifestyle and cultural life of the highlands.

From early morning, people led cows over rocky slopes to be on time for the opening ceremony.

Mr. Giang Mi Say, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Pho Bang Commune (Tuyen Quang), Head of the organizing committee of the contest, said that the contest not only aims to honor the local yellow cow breed but also helps preserve the traditional farming lifestyle of the highland people. Thereby, encouraging people to apply technical advances, improve breeds while still preserving the long-standing cultural values associated with the Mong people's cattle farming profession.

The People's Committee of Pho Bang commune will continue to maintain this contest every year to create a playground for people as well as develop tourism , attracting visitors to visit and experience.

According to the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Pho Bang Commune, to have cows that meet the standards to participate in the competition, Pho Bang people not only prepare for a few weeks or a few months but also for a long time. Many families start choosing breeds and raising them 2-3 years in advance, considering it a big investment for the family.

The healthy local yellow cattle breed, with long legs, straight back, and balanced physique, is always a priority choice from a young age.

After choosing the right breed, people begin the care process from food rations, fresh grass, mineral supplements to keeping the barn dry and clean for the cows to grow well.

"Highland people also have the habit of brushing their cows' hair every day, not only to make the cows look shinier but also to stimulate blood circulation, prevent parasites and create closeness between people and animals. Before the competition day, many families wake up early to bathe their cows in warm water, dry their hair in the sun and then brush it smooth. Training cows to walk long distances and stand still when measuring height and length is also done early," said the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Pho Bang commune.

The contest was organized with 2 main contents, including the bull and cow competition. Each content went through the steps of judging appearance and technical parameters according to regulations. At the end of the contest, the bull competition awarded 1 first prize, 3 second prizes, 3 third prizes and dozens of encouragement prizes; the cow competition also had a similar award structure.

At the judging area, Mr. Thao Mi Po, Pho La B village, Pho Bang commune, was happy when his 3-year-old cow won first prize.

He shared: “My family has been raising cows for generations. I will keep this prize-winning cow for breeding, hoping to create a stronger herd for my family and the whole village. Most importantly, through the competition, I have the opportunity to interact and learn more about how to take better care of cows.”

This special event also attracts tourists from many places. This is also an opportunity to honor the traditional livestock farming profession, the culture of the rocky plateau and affirm the aspirations of the people in the northernmost part of Tuyen Quang province./.
