Experience the four seasons, wherever you go is fun

Son La is blessed with a temperate climate and vast agricultural areas.

In that general picture, Moc Chau plateau (belonging to the old Moc Chau town, now arranged into new communes of Son La province) is considered the " tourist heart" of the province, where the green - ecological - community agricultural model develops strongly, creating a spreading force for the entire Northwest rural tourism region.

On Moc Chau plateau, more than 2,100 hectares of tea, 3,000 hectares of vegetables and more than 10,000 hectares of fruit trees create a foundation for large-scale agricultural production, while also forming unique tourism products.

The vast tea hills, synchronous farm systems, vast fruit orchards and safe farming models have shaped a green tourism space that is rarely found anywhere else.

Moc Chau National Tourist Area is over 200,000 hectares wide, stretching over the old Van Ho district and the old Moc Chau town of Son La province (now arranged into new communes) - acting as a gateway connecting Son La with Hanoi and the Red River Delta.

The year-round pleasant climate, open landscapes, and pristine cultural identity make this area one of the most prominent resort and nature discovery destinations in the North.

Not only is it a “land of tea hills”, Moc Chau and many other areas of Son La are forming green agricultural models to serve tourism: Dairy farms, flower growing areas, vegetable and flower farms in greenhouses, apricot gardens, peach gardens, plum gardens… open to welcome visitors all year round.

From purely agricultural spaces, people have transformed themselves into tourism operators, creating experiential services closely linked to local rural life.

In addition, the cultural values of 12 ethnic minorities living in Son La are important resources. Villages still preserve their traditional lifestyles, festivals and customs, opening up opportunities to develop community-based tourism with rich identity.

At any time of the year, Son La offers close, poetic experiences of nature and culture. In spring, Moc Chau plateau is brilliant with plum blossoms, peach blossoms, and Bauhinia flowers. The hillsides transform into a vivid spring picture that captivates visitors.

Sustainable green development associated with farmers, in line with national orientation

Moc Chau is also considered the “plum capital” with more than 3,200 hectares. Entering the harvest season is when the Na Ka, Mu Nau, and Pa Phach valleys become meeting points for tourists from all over the world. Picking plums yourself and enjoying them right in the garden has become a famous experience for many years.

Tourists can also walk among the green tea rows, learn about the tea processing process at production facilities, and take photos at the heart-shaped tea hills and fingerprint tea hills - familiar landmarks on the tourist map.

The dairy farm system offers family- and child-friendly activities such as mowing grass, feeding cows, watching the milking process and even experiencing milking yourself, creating a unique agricultural experience.

Son La is also a land rich in culture. In traditional villages, tourists can experience weaving, making Do paper, enjoy ethnic cuisine, market sessions, listen to ancient folk songs, watch Thai artists perform Xoe dance, etc. These values enrich the rural - ecological tourism experience in Son La.

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Son La, the province aims to develop organic agriculture, applying high technology and clean production to create a foundation for sustainable tourism.

People are encouraged to build tourism service models: Visiting farms, learning about harvesting, "being a farmer for a day", experiencing traditional crafts...

It can be said that the development of rural tourism in Son La is in the right direction of the Rural Tourism Development Program in new rural construction for the period 2021-2025, approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 922/QD-TTg dated August 2, 2022.

This is the basis for the province to continue to improve infrastructure, improve service quality and make agricultural tourism an important economic sector of the locality.

In recent years, Son La tourism has grown significantly, spreading to trade, services, crafts and many related fields.

In the context of green tourism becoming a global trend, Son La is considered one of the localities with the most favorable conditions to develop rural tourism, especially experiential products associated with agriculture and community culture.

From tea hills, plum gardens, dairy farms to villages and markets… each space has its own ecological and cultural value, creating livelihoods for the people, contributing to shaping the image of Son La rural tourism - modern, green but still imbued with the identity of the Northwest.
