The Ministry of Education and Training has just announced the results of the first round of university admissions in 2025 and the scale of university training in the past three school years, from 2022 - 2023 to 2024 - 2025.
Enrollment is booming in technology and engineering sectors.
The 2025 university admission season recorded a significant increase in both enrollment targets and training scale, especially in STEM ( science , technology, engineering and mathematics) and pedagogical fields.
This year, about 773,200 candidates passed the university entrance exam, but only nearly 625,500 enrolled. The groups of majors that candidates prioritized the most were business and management, computer and information technology, engineering technology, and humanities.
However, unlike previous admission seasons, when business and management majors always had an absolute advantage, this year engineering and technology majors are becoming the "new destination" for candidates with good academic performance and clear career orientation.
Notably, key strategic engineering technology sectors such as information technology, artificial intelligence, semiconductor microchips, cyber security, etc. attract more than 255,041 students.
Of the 77 majors with a benchmark score of 28/30 or higher, 17 majors belong to the key technical and technological groups such as control and automation, computer science, artificial intelligence, semiconductor microchips, etc. The pedagogical and technological groups account for the majority of majors with a benchmark score of 28 or higher.

Associate Professor Dr. Do Van Dung - former Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education - commented: "The labor market is sending clear signals about the need for human resources in core technology industries such as semiconductors, AI, control engineering - automation... When businesses need, students will move accordingly. This is a process of restructuring the choice of majors after a long 'hot' period of business - management majors".
Pedagogy is attractive again
In the 2024-2025 school year, the V sector (mathematics and statistics, computers and information technology, engineering technology, engineering, production and processing, architecture and construction, agriculture, forestry and fisheries, veterinary medicine) will continue to lead the university training scale with 707,611 students, an increase of 18% over the previous two years.
This is an impressive increase, especially in the context that many universities are still adjusting their recruitment strategies and in the face of global labor fluctuations.
The pedagogical sector (educational science and teacher training - sector I) also recorded a significant increase in attraction. The number of students increased from more than 89,000 in 2022 to nearly 113,000 in 2025, equivalent to an increase of 22%. This is a positive signal after many years of pedagogical difficulties in enrollment.
Ranked No. 2 in the scale of university training last school year with 576,662 students is group III (business and management, law).
Thus, there has been a shift in the leading position in terms of training scale between the two groups V and III in the past four school years. If in the 2021-2022 school year, group III was at the top, then last school year it was group V (regaining the No. 1 position it held in the 2020-2021 school year).
Position number 3 with 490,614 students in the 2024 - 2025 school year is group VII (humanities, social and behavioral sciences, journalism and information, social services, hotels - tourism - sports and personal services, transportation services, environment and environmental protection, national security and defense).
The two majors with the lowest number of students are major II (arts) with 31,401 students and major IV (life sciences, natural sciences) with 27,404 students.
University training scale according to 7 majors
Block I - Educational Science and Teacher Training;
Block II - Art;
Block III - Business and Management, Law;
Block IV - Life Sciences, Natural Sciences;
Block V - Mathematics and statistics, Computer and information technology, Engineering technology, Engineering, Production and processing, Architecture and construction, Agriculture, forestry and fisheries, Veterinary medicine;
Block VI - Health;
Block VII - Humanities, Social and behavioral sciences, Journalism and information, Social services, Hotel - tourism - sports and personal services, Transportation services, Environment and environmental protection, National security and defense.
