Japan U17 won big against UAE. |
Japan U17 quickly showed their speed and superior cohesion. It took just 3 minutes for the team from the Land of the Rising Sun to break the deadlock. Captain Hiroto Asada headed the ball against the crossbar, but Minato Yoshida was there just in time to score the opener.
Just 12 minutes after the opening goal, Yoshida continued to make his mark with a powerful header from a pass from defender Shota Fujii, raising the score to 2-0.
The constant pressure from Japan soon caused the UAE defense to collapse. In the 34th minute, Yuito Kamo took advantage of the space to accelerate past the opposing defender, then launched a tricky curling shot into the far corner, creating a 3-goal gap.
In the second half, Japan U17 continued to control the game. Yoshida almost completed his hat-trick with a header from inside the box but the ball went over the bar. Taito Kanda also had a chance to score the fourth goal with a powerful shot, but the UAE goalkeeper reacted excellently.
UAE could only create a few notable plays. Most notably, Buti's free kick flew over the bar. Then, Faysal Mohammed Albreiki - a player who came off the bench - helped UAE pull one goal back in the 71st minute with an accurate cross-angle shot.
However, Japan was still the team that ended the match in a more impressive way. In the 83rd minute, captain Hiroto Asada created space and then fired a cool shot, sealing a 4-1 victory for the representative from East Asia.
The resounding victory on the opening day not only helped Japan U17 temporarily rise to the top of Group B but also showed the impressive strength and depth of the squad of the number 1 candidate for the 2025 AFC U17 Championship.
In the second match of Group B, U17 Japan will face U17 Vietnam - the team that held U17 Australia to a 1-1 draw in the opening match, on April 7.
