Right after the opening whistle, U17 Vietnam unexpectedly took the initiative to attack their opponent in the first minutes of the opening match at the U17 Asian finals.
Even the first shot of the match belonged to U17 Vietnam, when Viet Long calmly handled past Miles Milliner and fired a left-footed shot from inside the U17 Australia penalty area. However, the ball went lightly and did not cause any difficulty for goalkeeper Jai Ajanovic.
After that, U17 Australia began to regain control of the game, and under the guidance of coach Roland, U17 Vietnam soon switched to a defensive counter-attacking style of play.
Vietnam U17 unexpectedly exchanged blows in the first minutes with Australia U17
In the 29th minute, U17 Vietnam was awarded a penalty for a foul on their opponent. However, the shot from U17 Australia captain Quinn MacNicol hit the crossbar and fell to the ground and out. The ball almost crossed the goal line, but because the tournament did not have VAR, the result did not change.
Australia U17 made many efforts to attack and soon scored the opening goal. Captain MacNicol, who had missed a penalty earlier, charged straight into the middle, reached the edge of the 16m50 box and fired a long-range shot that hit the ground into the left corner, defeating goalkeeper Hoa Xuan Tin.
Van Bach equalized 1-1 for U17 Vietnam
In the 45+2 minute, U17 Vietnam almost equalized in a beautiful attack. From a cross from his teammate, Van Khanh rushed in and shot low into the far corner, but the opposing goalkeeper promptly blocked it.
Entering the second half, U17 Vietnam tried hard to find an equalizer and quickly got what they needed. From a throw-in from a teammate on the right wing, Nguyen Van Bach headed the ball back for Hoang Trong Duy Khang to control with his chest, then brought the ball down to the bottom of the touchline and calmly shot from a tight angle, tying the score at 1-1.
With the equalizer, U17 Vietnam played with excitement and created opportunities on the opponent's goal. On the contrary, U17 Australia also tried hard to find a goal to regain the lead. However, the U17 Australia strikers showed a lack of luck and accuracy, especially when they shot the ball against the crossbar in the 90+3 minute.
In the 90+8 minute, bad luck also came to U17 Vietnam when Chu Ngoc Nguyen Luc's shot unfortunately hit the post.
In the end, U17 Vietnam tied U17 Australia 1-1. This is also a favorable result for U17 Vietnam at the 2025 AFC U17 Championship finals.
In the next match, U17 Vietnam will meet U17 Japan on April 7.
