U23 Vietnam receives bad news before the U23 Southeast Asian tournament

(Dan Tri) - Striker Nguyen Thanh Nhan suffered a serious injury and had to withdraw from the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 tournament. Coach Kim Sang Sik summoned young midfielder Le Van Thuan.

On the evening of July 16, Thanh Nhan and the whole team had a training session before the tournament in Indonesia. After landing unbalanced, the U23 Vietnam striker suffered a ligament injury in his left ankle, forcing him to leave the field immediately.

On the morning of July 17, he had an MRI scan, and the results showed that this striker could not recover in time to compete in the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 tournament. As a replacement, coach Kim Sang Sik summoned young midfielder Le Van Thuan, who was honored as the "Best Young Player of the V-League 2024–25 season", and immediately arrived in Jakarta on July 18.

Thanh Nhan's early departure from the tournament is a big loss for U23 Vietnam. This is not the first time this young striker has missed important tournaments due to injury.

Previously, he was absent from the 2023 Asian Cup Finals, could not participate in the bronze medal match at the 32nd SEA Games and most recently reluctantly withdrew from the 2024 U23 Asian Championship.

Le Van Thuan (born 2006) is a young face of Vietnamese football, he has made a spectacular breakthrough in his first season playing in V-League 2024-25.

With 16 appearances, 4 goals and 2 assists, Van Thuan excelled over many opponents to win the title of Best Young Player of V-League.

Growing up from the Thanh Hoa Club's training center, Van Thuan was quickly promoted to the first team and did not take long to assert himself. The young talent from Thanh Hoa promises a promising future for Vietnamese football.

In addition to Le Van Thuan, the U23 Vietnam attack line also has three other promising names: Nguyen Dinh Bac, Nguyen Quoc Viet and Nguyen Ngoc My. These are all players expected to create breakthroughs and bring attacking power to coach Kim Sang Sik's squad.

U23 Vietnam will have the opening match against U23 Laos at 5:00 p.m. on July 19 at Stadion Patriot (Indonesia).
