Vietnam sets record for welcoming international visitors, highest in history

The number of international visitors to Vietnam in October increased by nearly 14% compared to the previous month, recording a historical high compared to the same period of previous years.

According to newly released data from the General Statistics Office, in October, international visitors to Vietnam reached 1.73 million, up 13.8% over the previous month and up 22.1% over the same period in 2024. This is the highest number of international visitors to Vietnam in one month ever.

In October, international arrivals from Russia to Vietnam increased the most, with more than 66,500 arrivals, up 361% over the same period last year. Other markets also recorded good growth such as India (+170%), Philippines (+168%), Cambodia (+149%) and China (+142%).

In terms of absolute numbers, China remains the leading market with more than 433,000 arrivals to Vietnam last month, accounting for about 25% of total arrivals. South Korea ranks second with more than 360,000 arrivals (accounting for about 21% of total arrivals), followed by Taiwan (more than 106,000 people), Russia (more than 66,500 people).

In the first 10 months, the number of international visitors to our country reached nearly 17.2 million, an increase of 21.5% over the same period in 2024. Of which, visitors by air reached 14.6 million, accounting for 84.9% of international visitors and an increase of 21.8% over the same period last year; visitors by road reached 2.4 million, accounting for 13.9%, an increase of 21.4%; visitors by ship reached 205,100, accounting for 1.2% and an increase of 8.5%.

Meanwhile, the number of domestic tourists in October is estimated at about 6 million, bringing the total number of domestic tourists in the first 10 months of the year to 125 million. Total revenue from tourists in the first 10 months is estimated at about 858,000 billion VND.

The General Statistics Office said that favorable visa policies, tourism promotion programs, and activities to celebrate major national holidays and the signing ceremony of the International Convention on Cybercrime held in Hanoi on October 25-26 have attracted a large number of international visitors to Vietnam.

In 2025, the Vietnamese tourism industry aims to welcome 22-23 million international visitors. In August, the Government issued Resolution No. 226 on growth targets for industries, sectors, and localities, and key tasks and solutions to ensure the country's growth in 2025 reaches 8.3-8.5%. In particular, the Government assigned the target of striving to reach at least 25 million international visitors for the whole year to contribute to the overall economic growth target.
