The decision was made after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with members of the Israeli Cabinet, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Minister Benny Gantz.

Previously, Israel repeatedly affirmed that it could not allow Palestinians to return to the northern Gaza Strip due to many difficulties on the ground and no progress in efforts to rescue hostages.

Israeli officials also set a condition that Palestinian civilians would only be allowed to return to their old homes in the northern Gaza Strip if armed movements in the territory released all remaining hostages. (Times of Israel)
