PravdaUkraine today (June 13) quoted Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar as affirming that the country's forces have achieved many successes on the Bakhmut battlefield and have advanced 1.5km towards the town center from the left flank, 3.5km from the right flank, increasing the area re-controlled within a week to 16km2.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also previously confirmed that the Ukrainian army is advancing rapidly in the direction of Bakhmut. Russia has not commented on the above information.
On the same day, The Economist quoted a Ukrainian military officer named Denys Yaroslavskyi, who is currently fighting near Bakhmut, admitting that Russia is increasing the use of Lancet attack drones capable of destroying Ukrainian tanks and artillery on the front line.
“It is difficult, but we are moving. Within a week we will take the heights… and Bakhmut will be in the palm of our hands,” Yaroslavskyi revealed.
Meanwhile, the spokesman for Ukraine's eastern military group, Serhiy Cherevaty, said that the Ukrainian army near Bakhmut was advancing from several hundred meters to 2 kilometers per day, higher than the level achieved by Russia before it declared control of Bakhmut last month.
Ukraine launched a counter-offensive against Russia in recent weeks, focusing on the southern Donetsk front and the Zaporizhzhia region, but suffered heavy losses as Moscow's forces established strong and dense defenses.
By the morning of June 13, Ukraine confirmed that it had recaptured seven villages from Russian forces in the provinces of Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia. Deputy Defense Minister of Ukraine Malyar stated that the total area of the areas they re-controlled was up to 90 square kilometers.
However, according to military observers, the villages occupied by Ukraine are all located close to the front line, are moderate in size and are vulnerable to Russian artillery attacks.
Kiev under missile attack
On the morning of June 13 ( Hanoi time), airstrike warnings sounded in the capital Kiev and many other areas across Ukraine, PravdaUkraine reported.
Head of Kiev's military agency Serhiy Popko later confirmed that Russia attacked Kiev with Kh-101/555 cruise missiles fired from Tu-95MS aircraft from the Caspian Sea, but all Russian fire aimed at the city was intercepted.
On the same day, Kryvyi Rih provincial military official Oleksandr Vilkul said that his locality recorded large explosions, but the damage was not yet clear. Ukrainian authorities also asked people not to record images of explosions and air defense operations.
