UK Parliamentary Standards Commissioner investigates Chancellor Rishi Sunak

Prime Minister Sunak's office has said it will support Commissioner Greenberg to ensure the investigation is carried out transparently.

The Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards is an officer of the UK House of Commons responsible for monitoring the conduct and ethics of MPs, including monitoring their register of financial interests.

Under the proposed rules, every MP must "provide information about any financial interests that could reasonably be expected to influence the MP's actions, statements or votes in parliament , or his or her actions as a MP."

According to Reuters news agency, if the investigation concludes that Prime Minister Sunak has breached the standards of conduct for an MP, the commissioner can ask Prime Minister Sunak to admit the breach and seek to avoid repeating similar behavior.
