An Arizona office belonging to the campaign of US Vice President Harris and Democratic congressional candidates was damaged by gunfire on September 23, NBC News reported. The Tempe Police Department is investigating the incident, which occurred days before Harris was scheduled to visit Arizona. Tempe police said they responded to a call reporting shots fired in the office area. Since no one was in the office during the shooting, law enforcement is treating the incident as a property crime. "We are grateful to Tempe Police for their quick response and fortunately no one was present or injured," Sean McEnerney, campaign director for the Arizona Democratic Party, said in a statement. Harris's campaign most recently held a campaign event in Tempe in late August. Harris did not attend that event. She last visited Arizona in early August. Gun violence has become a topic of concern for many voters this election year, especially after Republican candidate Donald Trump suffered two assassination attempts. During the campaign, Ms. Harris called for banning assault weapons and urged states to enact "red flag" laws. The term refers to gun control laws and early warning signs from gun owners, allowing people to ask local courts to temporarily strip an individual of their gun rights if they show signs of violence or mental instability and could pose a danger to themselves or others. "We must end gun violence in our country once and for all," she told supporters at a campaign rally in New Hampshire earlier this month after the Georgia school shooting that left four people dead.
