The epic song of Dien Bien Phu echoes forever

These days, the whole country turns to Dien Bien with pride at a brilliant milestone: the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory. Seven decades have passed, but the echoes of the Dien Bien Phu epic still resonate. Because it was a victory that “resounded throughout the five continents and shook the world”; was the result of the correct and talented leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh ; was the crystallization of the spirit of determination to fight and win of our entire people and army on the path of struggle, realizing the aspiration for peace, national independence, and national unification.

Should be red wreath, should be golden history…”

Looking back at the Dien Bien Phu campaign and the 9-year long resistance war against the French, we can see the strategic height, intelligence and bravery of the Vietnamese people. And above all, it is the patriotism, the spirit of longing for independence and freedom of our people. Only then can we achieve “ 56 days and nights of digging mountains, sleeping in tunnels, enduring rain, eating rice balls; blood mixed with mud; unwavering courage; unwavering will ”; only then can we achieve a glorious miracle in the history of the struggle against foreign invaders; achieve a pinnacle victory in the Ho Chi Minh era. To live in peace and happiness today, every Vietnamese person feels admiration, pride and appreciation for what our ancestors sacrificed their blood and bones for, creating heroic victories and brilliant milestones in history.

The Dien Bien Phu victory left us with many valuable lessons. One of those lessons, as General Vo Nguyen Giap once told a foreign journalist, was that “our strategy includes everything - political, military, economic and diplomatic fronts. And it is not a war waged by the army alone, it is waged by the entire people”. The strength of the entire people is the key factor in achieving that glorious victory. That lesson remains valuable today. Our Party once concluded: “The revolutionary cause belongs to the people, by the people and for the people. It is the people who create historic victories. All activities of the Party must stem from the legitimate interests and aspirations of the people. The strength of the Party lies in its close connection with the people. Bureaucracy, corruption and alienation from the people will lead to immeasurable losses to the destiny of the country, the socialist regime and the Party”. In the context that our Party is continuing to promote the work of preventing and combating corruption with greater determination, synchronization, comprehensiveness and effectiveness, this lesson is increasingly imbued with practical significance. The valuable lesson of great national solidarity from the historic victory of Dien Bien Phu will be the driving force, adding strength to our entire Party, people and army on the path of innovation, integration and development, building and defending the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam.

The echoes of that historic victory will resound forever, like an epic poem - eternal and everlasting...
