Beauty between the sea and sky of the northeast

Thanh Lan is the largest island in the Co To archipelago with an area of about 27km², 4km away from Co To island by sea. To get to the island, visitors can travel from Co To island, or take a speedboat straight from the mainland (Van Don port or Ao Tien port).

From afar, Thanh Lan appears green in the middle of the ocean, where the mountains and the sea meet. The rhythm of life in Thanh Lan still retains the peaceful, simple beauty of an old coastal village community, newly developing tourism .

The island has many beautiful beaches with fine sand, gentle slopes and clear blue water. The most famous is Ba Chau beach, an arc-shaped beach located between spectacular cliffs, which is also a favorite sunset spot and recommended by many people on travel forums and social networks. Besides, there are also C76 beach, Hai Quan beach, Vung Tron beach, etc.

Thanh Lan not only has a marine ecosystem, but also has nearly 2,000 hectares of primeval forest covering it. The forest adjacent to the sea not only creates a unique landscape but is also suitable for exploring tourism activities such as trekking, camping, picnicking, etc.

Small trails under the trees will take visitors into the middle of nature, exploring the hills with panoramic views of the beach and surrounding islets.

Currently, the number of accommodation facilities in Thanh Lan is still limited and not diverse. Scattered across the island are about 10 motels and homestays invested on a small scale or renovated from private houses.

The island does not have many restaurants, but mainly accommodation businesses that also provide food and beverage services.

The sightseeing and check-in route of the relic cluster and scenic spots including the National Flagpole, Van La Bridge, Village 2 Temple and Thanh Lan Parish Church has also been formed, creating more highlights for visitors to learn and feel the cultural and historical values of Thanh Lan Island.

On the island, seafood exploitation and jellyfish processing are the main sources of income for the people. The fishing village-style cuisine is also an attraction. Seafood such as sea urchins, sea cucumbers, horseshoe crabs, sea worms, squid, fish, jellyfish, etc. are often cooked and grilled simply but still have a delicious fresh flavor. Thanh Lan also has the Open Sea Festival held annually.

According to Thanh Lan Tourism Development Plan 2025, the island commune aims to welcome 20,000 visitors and achieve revenue of more than 7 billion VND.

From April 2023, the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province will allow diving activities at Vung Tron, Hon Chim and Hon Ong Tich in Thanh Lan sea area, currently including the following services: snorkeling, scuba diving and seawalking.

According to Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Co To District Le Ngoc Han, the district has just approved and implemented a pilot project to organize water recreation activities and visit islands in the district from April 2025 to the end of 2026.

In particular, Thanh Lan Island is identified as an important tourist area, planned to form a chain of interconnected destinations, both avoiding congestion at traditional destinations and creating additional tourism products that bring efficiency and benefits to local people.

Co To district will organize 8 island tours, connecting Co To Con island, the islands: Ca Chep, Su Tu, Bay Sao, Dong Nam; Thanh Lan island and Tran island.
