( Quang Ngai Newspaper) - Every afternoon, Tan An beach, in Nghia An commune ( Quang Ngai city), has nearly a dozen women wearing conical hats, carrying full basins of rice snails, shrimp snails, coconut snails, fragrant snails... to the beach to sell. Locals and tourists often sit on the sand, drink sugarcane juice, coconut juice, then crack the snails, watching the windy sea and sky.
Tan An beach does not have many shops specializing in seafood like some beaches in the province, but it is a place that sells many simple snacks such as rice paper with shrimp paste, grilled eggs, pancakes, grilled corn and snails. Walking from the beginning to the end of the beach, about 500m long, the aroma of the dishes spreads.

Around 4 pm, when Tan An beach begins to become bustling and noisy with people and tourists coming to visit, it is also the time when women in Tan An bring their basins of processed snails to the beach to sell. Snails such as spiral snails, shrimp snails, rice snails, coconut snails, and aromatic snails... are sold by the can, with prices ranging from 20 - 50 thousand VND/can. These are all types of snails typical of Tan An beach, or living in rivers flowing through Nghia An commune such as Phu Tho river, Tra Khuc river... Young women often go to the river to rake and catch spiral snails, coconut snails... to save on raw material costs. Older women buy these types of snails from local fishermen and bring them home to process. The ingredients are readily available from the sea and the river, so the snail dishes here are always fresh and delicious.
There are also snails, coconut snails, rice snails, fragrant snails, and spiral snails, but each woman and mother has their own way of seasoning. Most women and mothers stir-fry snails with lots of lemongrass, garlic, and chili, so they have a fragrant and spicy aroma. Therefore, every time we pass by these snail stalls, we stop and buy some snails to enjoy.

Every time I come here, my friends and I often buy coconut snails and shrimp snails, then stop by sugarcane juice and coconut juice shops right on the beach, choosing a table and chairs near the edge of the waves. We eat snails, leisurely watch the sea in the afternoon, watch the green and red kites flying in the sky and hear the crisp laughter of the children in the fishing village. All the tiredness and worries in our hearts gradually disappear.
