Why do thunderstorms and lightning appear in the North?

Meteorological experts said the cause was a low pressure trough that was operating strongly at an altitude of 1,000 - 5,000m, causing widespread showers and thunderstorms in the North.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Huong, Head of Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, because this area had just experienced prolonged heat, when it rained again, extreme phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, and lightning occurred.

Mr. Nguyen Van Huong forecasts that from August 1, the heat in the North will temporarily decrease due to the low pressure trough continuing to cause rain. However, from August 2 to 4, this trough will weaken, and the heat will return. Around August 4 and 5, the North may have showers, then from August 7 and 8, the heat will reappear, expanding to the entire North and North Central regions (Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh ).

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has just updated information: from the night of July 30 to the morning of July 31, many places in the North had very heavy rain. Specifically, Huoi Leng 1 commune (Dien Bien province) had 155.2mm of rain, Pu Sam Cap commune ( Lai Chau province) 128mm, Chieng Cong commune (Son La province) 125.8mm, Ngoc Long commune (Tuyen Quang province) 100.2mm.
