Ho Chi Minh City University of Education has announced plans to stop considering academic records.
In the latest information published to date, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education continues to use the transcript score as an admission criterion combined with the specialized competency assessment exam score in a method, similar to 2024. Specifically, candidates will choose and take 1 main subject in the admission combination; the remaining 2 subjects will use the average score of 6 semesters in 3 years of grades 10, 11 and 12. However, the score ratio between the main subject and the remaining 2 subjects may change in the direction of increasing the weight of the main subject.
This information was announced to surprise many people because previously, in October 2024, the school announced that it planned to completely eliminate transcript scores in this year's admissions. Specifically, the school will not use transcript scores for both methods: independent transcript admissions based on quotas and the method of combining transcript scores with specialized competency assessment test scores.
The reason given at this time is that according to the new program, each student will choose and have a transcript score in different combinations, so this admission is no longer suitable. The specialized capacity assessment exam will be one of the school's main admission methods in 2025. In addition, the school will consider admission based on high school graduation exam results and direct admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Along with eliminating the review of academic records, the school plans to use the specialized competency assessment exam scores as an independent admission method. At that time, candidates need to take at least 2 subjects, including one main subject (depending on the combination). The admission score is the total score of the main subject multiplied by a coefficient of two, plus the remaining subject. The admission method based on the specialized competency assessment exam scores is expected to apply to more than 30 training majors and about 40-50% of the enrollment quota depending on the major.
Now, with the latest announcement, the school only stops considering academic records independently but continues to use academic records in admission combined with specialized competency assessment test scores.
Still using academic scores in combined consideration
Speaking to Thanh Nien Newspaper reporter, Dr. Huynh Trung Phong, Director of the Center for Student Support and Startup Development of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, said that the school confirmed that it would completely abandon the method of considering high school academic results (using the scores of 3 subjects in the admission combination from the transcript), as announced last October 2024.
But for the admission method using a specialized competency assessment exam, Mr. Phong said that the school uses the results of 1 main subject in this exam and the average score of 3 years of grades 10, 11, 12 of the remaining 2 subjects in the admission combination. This is a combined admission method that the school has used stably since 2024 and will continue to consider using in the 2025 admission year.
"The school made the above decision to avoid creating more pressure for candidates when they have to take at least 2 subjects to meet the admission requirements as planned, in the context that you are the first batch of students of the 2018 GeneralEducation program to graduate, and in reality, you have had to face many new things," Mr. Phong explained.
In addition, according to a representative of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, the school plans to use a larger weight for the specialized competency assessment test for admission this year. This adjustment this year emphasizes the important role of the specialized competency assessment test score, before moving towards fully using this test score for admission in the coming years.
