NASDAQ stock exchange leader presents Prime Minister with opening ceremony of trading session

On the morning of September 22 (local time), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh rang the opening bell at the NASDAQ Stock Exchange, worked with NASDAQ leaders and met with businesses introduced by NASDAQ.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked NASDAQ for inviting him to visit the floor on the occasion of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Tianjin (China) last June.

The Prime Minister stated that one of the important contents of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership recently established between Vietnam and the United States is to promote economic, trade and investment relations. This is also an area in which the United States has strengths and Vietnam has the conditions and potential to promote. In addition to the focus on economic cooperation, the two sides also identified science, technology and innovation as breakthrough areas of cooperation...

Based on the good political relations between Vietnam and the United States, the Prime Minister called on US businesses to increase investment in Vietnam in priority areas such as startups, innovation, science and technology, education and training, digital transformation, green transformation, circular economy, sharing economy, energy transformation, etc.

Believing that Vietnam's stock market is continuing to develop, the Prime Minister also hopes and suggests that NASDAQ strengthen cooperation with the State Securities Commission and relevant agencies of Vietnam on the basis of mutual benefit, for the practical interests of the people of the two countries, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and sustainable development in the region and the world.

The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam will create the most favorable conditions for investors through implementing three strategic breakthroughs (perfecting institutions, mechanisms and policies; developing modern and synchronous infrastructure; training high-quality human resources), promoting administrative reform, protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of investors, always listening, understanding and collaborating to remove difficulties, overcome challenges, help businesses and investors reduce costs, increase competitiveness, operate effectively and sustainably.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of sincerity and trust for close and effective cooperation in the spirit of harmonious interests and shared risks, because Vietnam and the United States have overcome the greatest difficulties when they went from opposing positions during the war to becoming Comprehensive Strategic Partners of each other, making the relationship between the two countries a model in the history of international relations in healing and building post-war relations.

Prime Minister directly answers business questions

The Prime Minister also directly answered questions from business leaders related to policies to encourage science and technology development in finance, land use, investment procedures, encouraging foreign enterprises to create conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to participate in the supply chain, etc.

Regarding policies to develop tourism, which according to businesses in Vietnam has great potential, thereby attracting more tourists from the United States, the Prime Minister said that Vietnam focuses on developing this field in conjunction with developing an advanced culture, imbued with national identity and applying new technological achievements.

Along with that, develop tourism products and accommodation facilities based on the potential, strengths, identity, cultural conditions, natural conditions of Vietnam and in accordance with the needs of tourists.

At the same time, focus on training human resources in the tourism industry; develop a system of synchronous, modern, and convenient transportation for tourists; develop digital infrastructure; improve the capacity of the health system to take care of tourists when needed...; ensure security, safety, environmental sanitation, food hygiene and safety...

The Prime Minister also said that Vietnam has just implemented e-visas for citizens of all countries, increasing the duration of e-visas from 30 to 90 days...

"With the friendliness, hospitality and openness of the people, we strive for each tourist to come to Vietnam many times and stay longer each time than the last," said the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister also said that Vietnam encourages investment in the pharmaceutical sector because Vietnam has abundant medicinal resources. Vietnam needs technology, management and human resource training in this field and encourages investors to increase the localization rate.

In response to comments that foreign companies are very interested in the electric vehicle market in Vietnam and want to transfer technology to develop electric vehicles, the Prime Minister said that green development is a trend, and Vietnam is no exception, including the development of green transportation. Vietnam is building mechanisms and policies to prioritize this issue; will consider cooperation and investment proposals from businesses based on legal regulations.

NASDAD leaders expressed their honor to welcome the Prime Minister and the Vietnamese delegation to visit and ring the opening bell for the trading session; highly agreed with the Prime Minister on cooperation to promote innovative start-ups, hoping and believing that they will witness more and more innovative start-up activities in Vietnam under the management and administration of the Vietnamese Government; committed to promoting capital sources to support start-up activities in Vietnam.

On this occasion, NASDAD and the State Securities Commission of Vietnam signed a letter of intent to continue promoting an increasingly close, effective and sustainable relationship between the two sides.

Previously, on September 21, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and rang the opening bell to open the trading session there.

New York City is famous for its two stock exchanges: the more public NYSE and the NASDAQ, which specializes in listing high-tech-information technology stocks. The capitalization of the NYSE and NASDAQ is larger than all other stock exchanges in the world.
