VHO - On May 30th, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Hue City signed a decision to establish a Council to assess the condition and propose methods for preserving and restoring the national treasure, the Nguyen Dynasty's royal throne.

According to Decision No. 1566/QD-UBND dated May 30, 2025, of the People's Committee of Hue City, the Chairman of the Council will be Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh - Standing Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hue City.
Mr. Phan Thanh Hai, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Hue City, and Mr. Pham Dinh Phong, Deputy Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), serve as Vice-Chairmen of the Council. Mr. Phan Thanh Hai is the Permanent Vice-Chairman.
The Hue City People's Committee also decided to invite 9 experts in the field of cultural research and preservation and restoration of antiquities to join the Council as members, including: Dr. Nguyen Van Doan, Director of the National Museum of History; Dr. Pham Quoc Quan, former Director of the National Museum of History, member of the National Cultural Heritage Council.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong Thom, Head of the Preservation Department, National Museum of History; researcher Nguyen Xuan Hoa, former Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Thua Thien Hue province (now Hue city); Dr. Phan Tien Dung, President of the Hue City Historical Science Association.
Dr. Huynh Thi Anh Van, former Director of the Hue Royal Antiquities Museum; artisan Nguyen Thi Thu Hien, restoration and preservation expert, Time Cabinet Company; Mr. Ho Huu Hanh, Director of Hue Relic Restoration Joint Stock Company; and Mr. Ngo Van Minh, Director of the Hue Royal Antiquities Museum.

According to a decision by the Hue City People's Committee, the Council is tasked with assessing the condition of the Nguyen Dynasty's throne and proposing a plan for its preservation and restoration as a national treasure. Simultaneously, it assists the Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee in considering and deciding on the preservation and restoration plan for the Nguyen Dynasty's throne.
The Council will dissolve itself after completing its task. It is expected that this weekend the Council will hold a meeting to assess the damage to the national treasure, the Nguyen Dynasty throne, following the vandalism incident on May 24th.
As previously reported by Van Hoa newspaper , on May 29th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism agreed to allow the Hue City People's Committee to establish a council to assess the condition and propose methods for preserving and restoring the national treasure, the Nguyen Dynasty's royal throne.
According to Mr. Phan Thanh Hai, Director of the Department of Culture and Information of Hue City, after the Council's plan is approved by the competent authorities, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center will carry out the preservation and restoration of the treasures with the participation of artisans. During this process, the Council will closely monitor, evaluate and propose long-term preservation plans.
