(CPV) - On October 24, at the 2023 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou (China), female weightlifter Dang Thi Linh Phuong won the Silver Medal in the 50kg category.
Dang Thi Linh Phuong entered the competition as the reigning champion of the Asian Para Games. However, she faced a big challenge from the host country's female athlete Wei Yi.
In the first lift, female weightlifter Wei Yi successfully lifted 105kg, surpassing the 2018 Games record of 103kg set by Linh Phuong herself, while Linh Phuong successfully lifted 98kg.
In the second attempt, Linh Phuong succeeded in raising her score to 101kg. Meanwhile, Wei Yi failed when trying to lift the barbell to 110kg.
Linh Phuong showed great determination when lifting the barbell to 106kg in the last attempt, slightly better than the achievement recorded in Wei Yi's first attempt. However, Linh Phuong failed in this attempt, while Wei Yi excellently lifted the barbell to 110kg in the second attempt to impressively win the Gold Medal and break the Games record.
With a score of 101kg, Linh Phuong won the Silver Medal. This is the first Silver Medal of the Vietnam Disabled Sports Delegation at the 2023 Asian Para Games.
On the afternoon of October 24, following the achievement of weightlifter Dang Thi Linh Phuong, "swimmer" Vi Thi Hang brought Vietnam another Bronze Medal.
In the S7 disability category (severe physical disability group) women's 100m freestyle swimming event at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Aquatics Center, Vi Thi Hang finished in third place with a time of 1 minute 20 seconds 58, receiving the Bronze Medal. Two home athletes: Jiang Yuyan and Ke Liting won the Gold and Silver Medals with times of 1 minute 11 seconds 53 and 1 minute 18 seconds 56, respectively.
As of 8:00 p.m. on October 24, the Vietnamese delegation had 1 Silver Medal and 3 Bronze Medals at the 4th Asian Para Games (Asian Para Games 2023)./.
