Vietnam successfully completed its term as Vice President of the UN General Assembly.

On September 5, at the UN headquarters in New York (USA), the UN General Assembly held the closing sessions of the 77th Session and the opening sessions of the 78th Session.

With the conclusion of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, Vietnam has successfully completed its term as Vice President of the UN General Assembly (September 2022 - September 2023).

As Vice President of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, Vietnam has successfully assumed this role, demonstrated by its extensive participation in the discussion process to promote the General Assembly to adopt an agenda covering all aspects of international life, and fully participating in the process of proposing and planning important decisions for the world .

During the last term, Vietnam and a number of countries proposed initiatives and solutions on many major issues of the United Nations such as promoting international law, oceans and maritime law, water security, responsibility to protect and prevent crimes against humanity, equal access to justice, preparation for the High-level Conference on Epidemic Prevention, Universal Health Coverage, Tuberculosis, Reform of the UN General Assembly, the UN Secretary-General's report on the organization's activities, the report of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the report of the International Criminal Court (ICC)...

Notably, Vietnam chaired the UN General Assembly to discuss and pass a resolution requesting the ICJ to provide advisory opinions on climate change, resolutions on organizing a High-level Meeting on pandemic preparedness and response, universal health coverage, tuberculosis, promoting discussion content at the UN Conference on Water, etc.

Vietnam's proactive and active participation aims to make concrete and substantive contributions to the common work and major priorities of the UN and the international community; to contribute to promoting international cooperation and solidarity and strengthening multilateralism to effectively respond to increasingly fierce emerging global challenges.

In addition, Vietnam has also supported the President of the General Assembly in smoothly and effectively running the common work of the UN, including major high-level events and important sessions of the UN General Assembly, as well as in coordinating and leading the discussion and negotiation process to build documents and processes that provide long-term strategic orientation for the UN in the following years.

Vietnam is the country trusted by the President of the 77th UN General Assembly to chair and direct many meetings of the General Assembly.
